Meet Latasha Thurston | Event Space Owner and Event Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Latasha Thurston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Latasha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my business was truly a leap of faith. I made the decision to take the risk and go for it; even though I had never built something from the ground up before. It was intimidating, but I felt a deep pull to create something of my own. What made all the difference was having a mentor and being part of a community of event space owners who reminded me that I wasn’t alone. Their support gave me the confidence to believe in my vision.
That vision became CT’s Creative Art Space, a boutique venue in Houston where people can celebrate life’s meaningful moments in an intimate, intentional setting. I wanted to create a space that feels personal and inspiring—especially for those with smaller guest lists who still want a full experience. Looking back, I’m so glad I listened to that nudge and stepped into the unknown.
But at the core, it was purpose, faith, and a desire to serve others through creativity that lit the fire. This business isn’t just what I do—it’s a reflection of who I am.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
CT’s Creative Art Space opened its doors in early 2020, just months before the world paused. My passion for bringing people together never wavered. Now, five years strong, we’ve become a cherished gathering place in the community, hosting everything from milestone birthdays and graduation parties to business events, book signings, back-to-school drives, and more.
Every event at CT’s is more than just a celebration—it’s a continuation of a heartfelt legacy. My space is rooted in creativity, connection, and care.
CT’s Creative Art Space started with a different vision—I originally wanted a co-working space for creatives and entrepreneurs during the week, with events on weekends. However, as I listened to my community, I realized the real need was for an intimate, welcoming venue for smaller guest lists, especially transplants and close-knit groups celebrating milestones like bridal showers and baby showers.
In my third year, I took a big leap and opened a second venue. It only lasted six months, but juggling two spaces taught me invaluable lessons about focus, delegation, and growth—lessons I plan to use when I revisit that idea in the future.
The journey hasn’t been easy, but adaptability, faith, and building strong relationships with vendors and mentors helped me pivot and grow. What I’m most proud of is creating a space that feels personal and joyful—a true legacy inspired by my late mother and built for my two sons. CT’s Creative Art Space isn’t just a business; it’s a place where people feel seen, celebrated, and connected.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love a good mix of nature, creativity, and fun. I would take my friend to Hermann Park or Discovery Green—my favorite places to unwind, reset and recharge. For something more interactive, I would head to Holey Moley for mini golf, good food, and even better vibes. Their food and drinks are 10 out of 10!
Of course, I love a good creative moment, so I’d sign my friend up for a charcuterie workshop at CT’s Creative Art Space. (Wink! Wink!) It’s the perfect blend of relaxation, good vibes, and hands-on fun—plus, and she gets to enjoy what she makes.
Since I’m a spa girly, Gangnam Spa is one of my favorite spots for some much-needed relaxation. I’d take my friend for a day of unwinding, starting with a dip in the hot bath, followed by time in the sauna and steam rooms, and finishing it all off with a soothing massage. I love the variety of relaxation rooms they offer; it’s the perfect escape!
To wrap up the week, I stock up on goodies at HEB and Trader Joe’s, and grab wine from Total Wine for a cozy night in with friends.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a heartfelt shoutout to my mentor, Nehemiah Davis, founder of Event Space Secrets and Circle of Greatness Foundation. If I hadn’t come across his ad on Instagram one night, I might’ve never taken that first step. His mentorship completely shifted my mindset. One of his quotes that lives rent-free in my head is: “It has to work or it has to work.” That simple phrase reminds me there’s no Plan B, just unwavering faith, relentless action, and full commitment. Because of his courage to show up and pour into others, I found the courage to build something lasting and meaningful.
I also want to honor the memory of my late mother, who was my very first cheerleader and creative influence. She constantly encouraged me to go after my dreams and introduced me to the joy of celebrating life’s milestones—especially birthdays. Her love for bringing people together lives on through me. In so many ways, CT’s Creative Art Space is a reflection of her spirit. Carrying her legacy forward in this way means everything to me.
