We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTonya Pelican and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaTonya, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Yes, one of my favorite quotes is “Nothing bets a failure but a try!” If you never try, how do you know what the results will be. Therefore, go for it. You very well might fail, but you may also succeed, And perhaps you do fail, take it as win oppose to a failure because you now have experience. You can use that experience to help you grow and develop something greater.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My heart is my passion. It’s who I am. I can create and design in my mind, draw out the vision and then execute it precisely. I am sure there are others who can just as creative. However, I’m set apart from others because God designed and created one of me. There is no other me. I am great at being me. So my customers get all of me. When I commit to a job, I give more than 100% with their wants and needs in mind every step of the way. Starting this business was not easy, because of the doubt and fear that haunted me. I initially worried about the competition. It’s many people who are excellent in this industry. So, I had to learn not to compare myself to anyone. I had to remember what I had to offer was just as excellent because it was original. It’s ok to learn and grow from others, but you beat yourself up trying to do the way they do it. God gifted me, so I had to focus on what He gave me and how to use it the way He purposed for me. I want the world to know that my brand is truly built on a foundation of service and humility. Serving others with great hospitality is key for me. I want my customers to feel as that they were well taken care of and treated with the highest appreciation and respect.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Shopping would definitely be on the list with any of my friends. We all love to shop all over town. Throughout the day, shopping in The Galleria (a variety of stores to choose from) while being able to to eat at one of the restaurant’s there or in close proximity (Del Frisco, Ruth Chris, Grand Lux or Quisie”s). At this point in my life, I prefer more of a laid back atmosphere without large crowds. Therefore, we would have drinks at Martini’s and More and enjoy the nice sounds of a live band. Also may check out a concert at the House of Blues downtown and mostly definitely have a few girls night on the patio at home with more friends over for cocktails, food, games, laughs, music and karaoke!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I truly have been blessed with a great support system from family and close friends. They have always trusted me with their most memorable moments in life (i.e., milestone celebrations, weddings, etc….). They trusted me many years before I actually started my business. Because of the gift they saw in me, I am living the reality daily as a event planner and stylist. The skills to plan and coordinate an event was not the only thing they saw; they saw someone who took pride in the happiness of others. Someone who was willing to serve others to make their visions a reality.
