We had the good fortune of connecting with James Gray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always been around self-employed people. Throughout my childhood, my grandmother owned a liquor store and a few cafés. So it came natural for me to start my own business in my favorite interests: photography and videography.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started out as rapper and I have plenty of music videos and albums online. I still have my mixtapes on livemixtapes and datpiff (LOL). I’m most excited about how much I have learned so far about music and what it takes to create storytelling and bring powerful visuals to life.
To overcome challenges, never give up. Those are my words of advice; I never quit and I stayed relentless!
I would love the world to appreciate and recognize my artwork and the culture I bring to life through compelling story-telling either through my camera lens or my music.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Best burger spot in Houston is The Burger Joint. It is hands down the best burger in the city and we are grabbing one!
For fashion and fresh gear, I’m heading over to “DIOS” store in Midtown (S/O Jorgey).
Late night, Frank’s Pizzas in Downtown, you can’t go wrong.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Just want to shoutout my family and my late mother that passed away in 2017. I would like to mention my girlfriend, Tiffany, for helping me financially and supporting my craft as a Creative Director. Without her, things wouldn’t be possible!
