We had the good fortune of connecting with LaToya Greene and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaToya, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When my daughter was small, I decided to enhance my education and skills to become a business owner. My thought process behind this was due to wanting to own something of my own that I could one day pass down to my daughter, wanting to earn more money, and I wanted the freedom of a flexible schedule, being my own boss, and doing something I enjoyed doing.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The name of my business is New Beginnings Life Coaching Academy. We specialize in helping clients build self esteem while decreasing depression. In addition, we offer two online coaching certification programs. The Life Coach Certification Program and Mental Health Coach Certification Program. When I first started coaching I volunteered my services at my daughter’s school and to others to gain the experience I needed. As time went on I realized how much I really loved what I was doing and decided to get certified while I was also in school working on my Bachelor of Science in Business. From there my volunteering was also giving me exposure and allowing more people to become familiar with me and my services. As time went on I decided to start my business and started taking the steps to do that. One opportunity led to the next and allowed me to not only help others but earn a profit to support myself and my child. I’ve been coaching over 10 years and have provided an array of services to clients and have contracted with many businesses in the community to provide my youth program to and other coaching services to them. I’ve worked with schools, apartment properties, and churches and have had a great experience. This journey has had it’s share of challenges but as with anything in life you work through those challenges and they make you stronger for the next challenge. I love what I do and it has been a great experience.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some favorite spots in Houston that I enjoy and would take a friend who were visiting from out of town would be The Rouxpour in Sugarland. It’s a nice restaurant with good food and great service. Another favorite spot would be The Galleria Mall for a bit of shopping fun. There’s museums of all kinds in the medical center, and another favorite food spot would be Sugar’s Cajun Restaurant in Missouri City, Texas. They have good cajun food and live bands on the weekend.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A special shout out and thanks to my daughter KyLassia who was my biggest motivation and support! I would also like to give a special thanks to family. They have always showed me love and support and have always believed in me.
