We had the good fortune of connecting with Laurie Coton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laurie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I thought I could do better. It seems to be a reocurring theme when I look back at the things I’ve set out to do. Some probably weren’t that smart to take on, but I suppose I saw a challenge.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Coton House is an agency who has an umbrella of offerings of real estate, interior design, investments and remodeling under one roof. All aspects work well together to provide better service, better advice and more opportunities. It is a collaborative team that works well together. By fostering this spirit through open team meetings, broker interaction and activities, we learn from each other and share expertise. The markets are always changing and it is a good way to stay on top of those changes. Our agency has an in-house interior design division with an amazing design team. We can help from finish schedules for builders to advice for investors to creating a full turn-key residential project. Our investment team focuses on land acquisition, working with builders and achieving investors goals. Coton House also has an in-house marketing person. Through her creativity and understanding of our markets, she works on our social media, reels, videos, graphics and presentations. Each is personalized to the team member that is in need. We also have an amazing systems person who focuses on our CRM, helps agents with analytics, advertisements, social media expertise and drip campaigns, to name a few. We have a beautiful office which houses a professional photographer, design library and a podcast room which help us market, as well. I would like the world to know that we are a professional group of individuals who work together and value relationships, but also strive to assist our clients with tenacity and thought provoking options.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is such an incredibly diverse spot. I have a client who said, “Where else can you go to a 5-star type of dining experience in a strip shopping center?”. I love to explore so this may be a long list…

We’d have to start out at Fix coffee and then to the Menil museum, lunch at Colombe D’or on the patio and then to Anvil for mixed drinks before going to Hugo’s for dinner. We could go to the BAPS Hindu Temple in Stafford and then to Himalaya for Indian food and the Alley for a show. If the Astros are playing, it would be great fun to catch a game and walk the tunnels beforehand. We’d have to go to the Fine Arts Museum and then to lunch in the new building. Also, we’d drive through the murals around the Eastend, go to a brewery and eat at Rodeo Goat. On another day, we could go to the Urban Harvest farmer’s market and then drive through River Oaks and go to Bayou Bend. We’d have to go eat Asian or Russian food. Another day, we would drive through the medical center to show them the depth of the area, go past Rice and the Icon building and go to Mucky Duck for some live music. If we still have time, we’d have to go to Goode Company and to Memorial Park to start walking off the pounds we’d gain in the week!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout to all the people that are in my agency. Every day they make me laugh, teach me new things and collaborate which makes us all stronger. Stronger not only personally, but professionally, too.
