We had the good fortune of connecting with Layla Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Layla, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I became interested in photography at a young age. Behind the camera or in front I loved everything to do with it. I grew up going to events with my mom all the time. I would take picture’s for fun and eventually it became something I was really good at. As I entered my sophomore year, I joined Journalism and started taking the opportunities to go to sporting events to take pictures. Soon Athletes started asking me where they could get the pictures so I came up with the idea of starting an Instagram to promote my photography. The Basketball and Track athletes became my biggest supporters. Photography is like 2nd nature to me because as I stated I grew up with a camera, so following in my moms foot steps has been easy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am excited what the future has in store for me. I cant wait to meet more people and capture memories. I’m still growing my career and myself as a photographer everyday, just stiving to get better. I face the challenges being a student athlete as well but its nothing I can’t handle, In fact its benefited me. I’ve done it before this past year and I will do it again. The lessons I’ve learned are endless, but putting myself out there is one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned. I’ve also learned to listen and take in all the critiques because there’s always someone whose been doing it longer than you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite places is The boardwalk at Towne lake. Its super family oriented and I love the scenery, its great for pictures. Food wise Mod pizza is usually my go to. Its always great and convenient and located there. Another place I love is CityCentre it has everything you would need. From shopping, great food, a hotel, and movies. I always enjoy my self there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout my mother, Mocha Brown Productions ( Nicky). She has been doing photography and Videography as an independent business owner for years. She taught me photography at a very young age and I fell in love with it. I love going to events with her getting gaining exposure and learning. Also my amazing journalism teacher for helping me gain more knowledge and get out my comfort zone at events. They have both supported and taught me well!
