We had the good fortune of connecting with LaZae’ and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaZae’, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today,” would have to be one of my favorite quotes. The first segment of the quote serves as a reminder to let imagination lead my agency, and to keep the promise of eternity etched it in my heart. The latter part of the quote, reminds me to take action. To live, is actively engage in the world in which we live, to materialize that which we envision with the dream state, and that can only be done in the now, or today, as the quote suggests. This quote speaks to divine balance and the ebb-and-flow of life if we choose to unpack it. Truly beautiful.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist, I draw inspiration from being an observer of life for what it is, and attempting to harmonize and articulate the many intersections of living that formulate our present now. Examples of this include (history, spirituality, religion, current events, economics, etc). Furthermore, I also like to draw on the experiences of the many people around me who might feel themselves to be inaudible, or who don’t have access to convey their plight in an artistic form or who lack access to create due to financial limitations. The thing that excites me the most, is just having the ability to bring beauty and revelation simultaneously, while also freeing my mind as opposed to just keeping all these thoughts and experiences bottled up. I believe a live worth living is one that is shared, and brings liberation to those in our surrounding environments, and creative expression gives us the ability to do so. Professionally, I don’t think I’m anywhere where I want to be, but that’s cool with me. Art is the act of living, and I feel like on a human level, I’m okay haha. Always trying to learn, grow, and mature in Christ, and on a social level I think I’m a decent human being.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
City Houston: If I was to take friends to visit Houston, the first place we’re visiting off jump would have to be Turkey Leg Hut. The Atmosphere is friendly and fun… and the food is superb. Another place I’d take them to is the Art’s District in Houston, Texas. The graffiti is legendary and a lot of creatives visit there from time to time, making it a great place to network.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out: My momma, The Most High, Deno Tomlinson of iProduce1, J-Darius, Fayetteville, NC, my lady, everyone on the planet that I love and draw inspiration from, those who are addressing their wounds healthily in their own life, the many who I am unconscious of that have faith and have supported anything I have done.
