We had the good fortune of connecting with Leonard Massey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leonard, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe that the commitment and sincerity I have towards my work are the main reasons for my success. I never stop the learning process.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a full time musician, Music is all I do. I combine, both old-world charm and the modernity in my music. The songs that I cover are versatile, both eastern and western. My extensive experience and musical talent includes playing and performing with the keyboard, clarinet and saxophone – which has helped me garner recognition both locally and internationally. In Pakistan, i am mostly known for Jazzing my way around Karachi with my band Club-777, and I’m one of the most sought after musicians in the city.
I have performed on a variety of high profile projects such as having the honor of being the first ever musician to play the Pakistani National Anthem with a saxophone.

There have been a lot of challenges throughout the process, because I work for multiple organizations at the same time, also teach music privately, then there are different recordings and gigs I am associated with. So it is for sure very challenging for me to manage all my work, but I guess I’ve gotten used to it now. I guess I manage all this with the help and support of my family especially my wife, because I am mostly very busy with my work and music and she is the one who manages the kids and my house exceptionally. so its her support that has played an important role in my work.

I would really want the world to know that success will only come to you if you are fully committed to your job. Especially a musician in our country, need to learn and show their work continuously.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are some local joints out here where we have live bands perform. Port grand is one of them with a great ambience facing the sea. Also there is a club by the name of club 777 where every forth night I perform along with my band and we have an exclusive clientele.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people who have helped and inspired me throughout this journey but if I have to chose that one person who has unconditionally supported me is my Dad.
