We had the good fortune of connecting with Lesley Resendiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lesley, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance! Something I am still trying to figure out haha. It has changed overtime, but it has only changed because my priorities have changed as well. Before I used to think that I had to go out and meet people and “network” and then staying out late while I still had to get up and go to my 9-5 the next day AND still have enough energy to plan out what I’m actually working on. I realized that the small things you do every day eventually make a bigger impact in the long run. While I’m still working a regular job, I prioritize everything so that I’m not burnt out. The balance for me is pretty simple: get your money, plan your business, check on your family and if anything else has to come up.. it has to fit in that schedule.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So I am currently working on Goldskin Gyal! It is my perspective on life and just being the only woman on the team, I felt like I had to incorporate myself creatively and authentically without separating myself too much from my kinfok. Paisley Queen has a new home and that is Goldskin Gyal. It wasn’t easy coming to this idea- it’s been sitting in my brain for almost 3 years now. It was difficult trying to gather my thoughts together because I was afraid that the creative world had become oversaturated- but then I thought- yo I am not everyone else. I think what sets me apart from everyone else is that I really don’t want to be famous or anything like that. I just want to create and share with everyone else and just see everyone doing what they love because they simply enjoy it. Something I learned along the way is that nowadays just because you see someone doing something online… doesn’t mean that, that is actually what they enjoy doing! They may just be doing it because it’s a new trend or they are desperate to be famous or something. I want people to know that anything I’m involved in, is to put something good out into this world. What we put out will eventually get back to us! So why not make this world a better place? One person, one brand, one song, one piece of clothing, or post at a time. As far as Goldskin Gyal…. you’ll have to wait and see.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooooooooh okay. In Houston, there are so many cool outdoor places because of the space! I would take them to a brewery or maybe some cool Mexican Vegan food! (SHOUT OUT CASCABEL) I don’t really go out much to know a lot of spots but I would take them to Austin to meet Kyle, Dmo, and Aliza because they know all the cute places hehehe. As far as the South Bronx, I would either take them to La Morada Mexican food or La Cueva Fonda for my favorite go to Mexican food. LCF HAS THE BEST GUAC. I would also take them to the bodega and tell them to order a chicken cutlet sandwich or a BLT hahah (also my go to) but you can ever go wrong with $1 pizza and for drinks….. we can go to the liquor store and have a whole coro at the crib! Haha

Shout out to anyone that has ever liked, shared, purchased, or just continues to follow me on my joinery through this world! My family over at Goldskin Kinfo’k always pushing me to be great & always challenging me, and everyone who has always been apart of the GSKF journey. To my friends, my girls, for always having my back through anything that I am facing. My parents & brother who think I’m crazy sometimes but love me unconditionally!!! And God & the Virgincita for always being in my heart. I’ll never take your comfort for granted.
