We had the good fortune of connecting with Leslie Williams and Marcy Marcum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leslie and Marcy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We have been best friends for over 30 years and our personalities are complimentary to each other which speaks to the long-standing relationship of our friendship. Both of us have a passion for interior design and home renovations, so we thought we would start Southern Roots Living together! While we have lived other places, we are both native to The Woodlands and decided it is also where we want to put our “roots” down with our own budding families. We love this idyllic hometown surrounded by trees, nature and a sense of community. Having both bought “fixer uppers”, we wanted to share our reno journey, and help others envision how they might also makeover their spaces.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In conjunction with home makeovers and styling, some of our favorite projects involve kid spaces. As mothers and as educators, we enjoy creating environments for children that engage their learning and imaginative play. We take pride in providing a space to let them shine.
We get excited when our friends and clients feel at home in their newly redesigned cozy, smart and beautiful spaces. Since the 3rd grade, we have dreamt of being in business and raising families together. The quarantine opened our eyes to the importance of this dream, our home, and family. It also showed us that life is unpredictable and that taking risks are worth fulfilling a dream. Much like taking design risks, which are often the most rewarding.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Woodlands has many unique local spots to spend time with friends and family. From shopping on Market Street, to dining on Restaurant Row in Hughes Landing, or attending a concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, The Woodlands is a community with a lot to offer. Recently, The Woodlands was named the #1 place to live in the country by Niche. Other amenities that might peak interest, are the over 100 miles of hike and bike trails, the numerous parks and top rated schools.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like dedicate this shoutout to our friends (naturally), our families, and The Woodlands Community.
