We had the good fortune of connecting with Libby Darling and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Libby, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After nearly 20 years in the Retail Corporate beauty world, navigating countless changes, I realized something profound—my passion was shifting. What once fueled me, making people look and feel beautiful, had turned into a focus on metrics and the bottom line. I found myself longing for something more personal and meaningful.

So in 2020 I took a step back to reflect on what truly drives me. My heart has always been in empowering others, helping them feel radiant, confident, and celebrated. That’s when it clicked—how could I channel that passion into something that felt authentic and fulfilling?

The answer was clear: creating a bridal artistry business where my clients aren’t just pampered but leave feeling transformed. There’s something magical about being part of someone’s most special day, giving them confidence and joy that lasts far beyond the moment.

Now, with Darling Beauty, I’m bringing my vision to life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Darling Beauty is more than a bridal artistry business—it’s a reflection of my journey, resilience, and heart. As a plus-size immigrant from the UK and a single mom, my story is one of overcoming challenges and turning passion into purpose. I named my business Darling Beauty as a tribute to my late father, who always called me his “darling girl.” That name is a constant reminder of his love and the strength it gives me to pursue my dreams.

What sets Darling Beauty apart is the care and connection I bring to every client. I don’t just provide makeup or hair services; I create experiences that leave my clients feeling confident, radiant, and celebrated on their special days. I infuse my love for all things pink and sparkly into my work, but the real joy comes from the moments of connection I share with the incredible people I meet.

Getting here wasn’t easy. Starting a business as a single mom was daunting, especially in an industry that can be incredibly competitive. But I leaned on my unwavering belief in myself and my craft. The challenges taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying true to my vision.

I’m most proud of the way Darling Beauty has grown, not just as a brand, but as a space where people feel seen and valued. My son Jasper and my beautiful godchildren, Savannah Rae, Jase, and Charlie, are my biggest inspirations. They remind me to always lead with love, creativity, and kindness.

The world should know that Darling Beauty is about more than beauty—it’s about empowerment, celebration, and storytelling. Every client brings a unique story, and I feel honored to play a part in making their moments magical. Whether it’s a bride on her wedding day or someone looking to feel their best for a special event, I’m here to make their dreams come true.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I’d plan a personalized adventure starting the moment they arrive. After picking them up from the airport, we’d head to Corkscrew BBQ in Old Town Spring for some of the best barbecue Houston has to offer. Next, we’d stroll around Old Town Spring, popping into charming boutiques and exploring unique spots like the little British market. From there, we’d make our way down to Kemah, where we’d spend the afternoon on the Boardwalk. For lunch, we’d visit Topwater Grill in San Leon to enjoy their amazing Oysters Rockefeller and swinging outdoor tables. To amp up the fun, we’d rent jet skis on Clear Lake and wrap up the day with cocktails at Voodoo Hut, then stay overnight at the Boardwalk Inn for convenience and atmosphere.

The next morning, we’d start at the Aquarium in Kemah to feed the stingrays and explore. Afterward, we’d ride the thrilling Boardwalk Beast, a speedboat tour of the Gulf, and end the Kemah visit by feeding the catfish at the Boardwalk’s quirky cat food station. Back in Spring, we’d enjoy a relaxing evening at Sushi Hana, which offers all-you-can-eat sushi served fresh to your table—sometimes by a cute little robot.

In the summer, a trip to Galveston would be a must. We’d stop by the Rainforest Café, where the underground water ride adds a playful touch, perfect for kids and adults alike. Afterward, we’d hit Build-A-Bear for a fun souvenir and grab a cocktail before heading to Murdoch’s, where we could browse seaside trinkets and soak in the ocean vibes. This itinerary would perfectly blend food, fun, and Texas charm for a visit they’d never forget!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to give a heartfelt shoutout to a few key people and influences who have profoundly shaped my journey in the beauty industry. My start with YSL was a pivotal moment where I first fell in love with the transformative power of makeup, and my 10 years with Estée Lauder taught me the art of sophistication and luxury in beauty. Macy’s was where I honed my craft and built lasting client relationships, solidifying my dedication to excellence.

I owe much of my inspiration and growth to Lisa Bulger, Jessie Baker, Susan McMillan, and Ryan—mentors who exemplified leadership, creativity, and grace, always pushing me to be my best. Their guidance continues to resonate with me in every aspect of my career.

On a creative level, my passion for makeup has been deeply influenced by trailblazers like Lipstick Nick, whose artistry inspires me to push boundaries, and the entrepreneurial spirit of Jeffrey Star, who proves that authenticity and innovation can rewrite the rules of the game.

These individuals and experiences have shaped not only my career but also the values I bring to my work every day: passion, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence. They deserve every ounce of recognition for helping me become the artist and professional I am today..
