We had the good fortune of connecting with Logan Shanklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Logan, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always had an admiration for fashion and knew that one day I would want to start a brand of my own. It wasn’t until last year during lock down, that I decided to work towards it.When things started to open back up, I decided to sign myself up for sewing classes. During those classes I learned how to sew many different things and I easily became fascinated with the sewing machine and it’s capabilities of bringing your visions to life.Taking the classes really motivated me to finally start my own brand. It was very important to me that the name of my brand represented a part of my cultural background. Being half Nicaraguan, I spent many of my childhood summers in Nicaragua.Being in Nicaragua truly shaped who I am as a person today. In fact, that is what the name of my brand is inspired by. Estelí, a city in Nicaragua where my Mother was born.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
E S T E L Í is just getting started and I’m already so proud of where it is heading. I am most excited about dropping our very first collection which will consist of men’s and women’s wear. Personally, I believe I got to where I am today by working very hard and maintaining patience. I had to stop asking God why things weren’t happening to me at the time I wanted them to. Once I stopped asking is when everything came to me at once. When it’s time, it is time. So no it’s definitely not easy, I think the hardest thing is being patient overall. Sometimes things don’t go how you would like them to, or don’t happen quickly enough, but you have to have faith because it WILL work out in the end. And I think that’s also the biggest lesson I learned as well. If there’s one thing that I would like the world to know it’s that creating this brand is the way for them to see my creativity and designs first hand and I’m beyond excited for them to see.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to my favorite spot in Houston which is Moxie’s.Moxie’s is the perfect restaurant to grab drinks, eat,and kick it with your girlfriends. I would also take them to the Museum of Fine Arts, they always have new exhibits that are worth seeing. And of course I would have to take them to some of our thrift stores around here, “Pavement“ being one of my favorites.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First,I would like to give all praises to God because without him, none of this would have been possible. Secondly, I would like to give a big shoutout to my customers who consist of friends, people I’ve never met, and even big influencers. Without any of these people my brand wouldn’t be where it is today. I truly appreciate the support from everybody.
