We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyd Rock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lyd, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The Habit that I feel helped me the most is being organized/ efficient. It helps cut back on time wasted and helped to keep you on track / ahead! Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
It has been a good road. I will say some of my challenges are that most people know me as LydRock the dancer, and dancing requires a lot of my attention and time: with teaching classes, tours and building AfriRock (Afrobeats dance classes). It kept shifting my focus off fashion. Right now, I am in the growing pains of trying to find opportunities that allow me to showcase and highlight my fashion side; and how to attract and retain customers for my merchandise. It has been challenging, yet I am grateful for the support and excited to elevate from there. Rockstyles is a lifestyle brand, I design ankara african print, limited fashion items, sell clothes through Lyd’s Closet, and style clients for video shoots, fashion shows, performances and more. What sets me apart is that I am cost-efficient; styling primarily using the client’s own closet and minimizing added purchases. I offer the client more confidence and tools from what they have to create an elevated stylish version of themselves. I want the world to know that I intend to show up show out to the fullest now that I truly know that this is what I’m here to do!Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Mmmhhh let’s seee, We would have to go to a Mexican restaurant called Michoacán I love their food and margaritas! Or Marie’s African Flavor my fav spot! Definitely will do a little shopping at Exchange to Change ( black owned resale shop), for night life probably Domain on Saturday’s and for brunch Phil and Derricks , I clearly love food! Lastly 3D Galeriè for some dope pics !
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
@afrourbansociety they truly helped shape my career and I’m forever grateful and thankful!
