We had the good fortune of connecting with Madieha Khandwani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madieha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting up your own business can be very terrifying. There’s a lot of you that goes into starting one. It can be very overwhelming, the risks, decision making, the do’s and don’ts can make one double think to stop before even starting. It purely came within before I moved into The United States. Struggling financially at a very young age made me develop a mentality to be financially independent and give my parents back someday for all their hard work. In 2016, two months before I moved in, I took basic hair and makeup courses with L’Oréal to expand my knowledge. When I arrived to Houston, Texas I started working in a salon and there an opportunity of doing bridal makeup appeared and I went for it. From that moment everything was about having something of my own someday and that’s how Maddy Kay Beauty started growing in my life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe some things in life are simply learning opportunities for you to start preparing yourself for what’s to come next. It’s never easy in the beginning of your career, there’s always the highs and the lows that one goes through, the catch is how well you handle it? Anytime I would be in a panic mode when something is not going the way I want it to, My best friend always asks me “what’s the worse thing that could happen?” And just that thought eases my anxiety and I’ve been able to accomplish so much!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a really good question, I would take them to the Houston Museum of Natural Science since it’s one of the most attended and amazing museum in the country. Next I would love to take them for lunch to Backstreet Cafe, located in River Oaks, Houston, best food I have ever had! The ambiance is just amazing. Next stop would be the Galleria mall. After a little shopping spree, to end the day with a good dessert I would take them to Amorino gelato which has the best ice cream in the city.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are some people that I would love to thank to be in this start of my career, but the first one has to be God, for always being by my side no matter what. There has been times where I didn’t see any way out of a situation but he indeed opened every door needed on the way. Then my parents for always believing in me, trusting every decision I’ve made. Lastly, thanking my clients, for always believing in my work, special thanks to the clients that supported my work in the very beginning of my career. Without their constant support I would’ve made it no where in life. I will be grateful to them always.
