We had the good fortune of connecting with Mair Emenogu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mair, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define success by being able to live your life according to the way YOU want to live it and having the means to do.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have a fragrance brand called, MAIR. It has an unconventional start in that a former coworker saw my signature and told me he could see it on a perfume bottle, three years later it was my reality. It got off to a rocky start because I didn’t have the right support system which in turn made me very demanding with my team. Running a brand is not easy, I feel like you have to constantly reinvent your product to stay relevant and to keep your customer base engaged. With the pandemic, it changed the normal way of doing business from one that was hands-off (wholesale model) to one that is direct to consumer (eCommerce) which is particularly difficult because the majority of perfume sales are made after the person smells it. However, the pandemic has taught me the most single important thing in the sales funnel isn’t the final sale but the experience and journey the customer takes to get there. Once you create an experience worth taking they will keep coming back. I want the world to know I’m still working hard to deliver a line of soft unobtrusive scents. The market is cluttered with strong and overpowering fragrances. In the past, they had to be that way due to low hygiene. But now, that we are more advanced in how we care for ourselves I wanted to create something woman can wear that will compliment them instead. Working to bring my second scent to the market soon.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout-out the newest location of Bean Here Coffee. It’s a very open and spacious new coffee shop with a great work vibe. Major points go to the owner, Mike for digging deep and creating a local spot from his imagination.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to shoutout an organization called, LAUNCH in Houston, Texas. They gave me my first break in retail and truly groomed me with the knowledge of how to run and conduct my beauty brand as a business.
