We had the good fortune of connecting with Malik Kutty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Malik, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” —Maya Angelou A great quote resonates when it verbalizes a sentiment you couldn’t otherwise place your finger on. I truly love what I do every day. I’ve built my practice to be my dream job. I can take my time visiting with clients and develop a personal bond with them. As a plastic surgeon, I look forward to the variety of transformative procedures I do. The most rewarding thing about my job is that clients come back after surgery as happier people. I am humbled by the fact that people trust me to do such highly personal procedures on them and the results are so meaningful to them. To me, Maya Angelou’s words mean that what I do for others makes them feel better about themselves and that they will remember me for it. What I say to them and do for them are certainly positive, but the best part for me is knowing how what I said or did makes them feel.

What should our readers know about your business?

I started Luxe Plastic Surgery in 2010 as a solo private practice in aesthetic surgery. What makes my practice work is that I keep volume manageable so that I can spend lots of time with every client I see, before, during and after surgery. Patients grow to trust me and believe that I can deliver the results they want. I don’t have to cram my schedule with too much surgery which means I can fully focuson each one. Plastic surgery is a customer-service business. Recognizing that fact is what has made my practice so successful. In fact, at those times when I became overly focused on revenue I think customer service wasn’t as high-quality as I demand. Keeping things running efficiently is not easy, and most people aren’t suited to running a business which is why so many new businesses fail within their first six months. Of course, understanding the business side of medicine is crucial to success. I’ve been able to build such a successful brand because I concentrate on customer service, product quality and economics. The same goes for any business; my success comes from the fact that I chose a profession where those happen to be my strengths.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hopefully my friend would visit when it’s not too hot! Seriously though, a week would be perfect for a combination of outdoor and indoor fun. My friends from other cities are always pleasantly surprised by the fact that a city this big has so many parks, lakes and trails. Some of my friends are motorcyclists and we really enjoy the country roads nearby. I love the fact that Houston has so many great restaurants, but what sets us apart is that they are so easily accessible and are in every corner of the city. It’s perfect for our guests because they get to do all that and come home to our quiet neighborhood, which is something that isn’t possible in most big cities.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Yasmin, who believed in and encouraged me when I wanted to move from New York to Houston, TX and start a new plastic surgery practice. My daughters Samar and Layla who gave up so much to move to Texas but did so because they trusted me that it would be awesome in the long run.
