We had the good fortune of connecting with Marivano Lister and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marivano, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I asked myself what matters the most to me in life, my response was “time.” Time is the most expensive luxury because we can never get that back. Many people are caught in a stimulation or ideology of how we should live our life based on the world’s standards. My thought process in starting a business was finding a way out of the matrix. Ultimately, I wanted freedom & happiness and the key was choosing something I was truly passionate in. I believed that having control of how I spent my time would create freedom where I would be happy and understand my purpose.

So for years I thought of my life, the obstacles I’ve faced, the world and this weird perception of what success is for everyone and why? Furthermore, I started to realize is that people should choose what success is for them. We all have different interests, different beliefs and we are in no power to judge. I thought of a company name for five years before I decided. I wanted something long term that will always resonate with people from different cultures, backgrounds and for those who are not afraid of taking risks.

We live in a world where people self reflect their insecurities on to others without knowing and many are left discouraged to at least try. My brand, Pink Rodeo represents “life is a rodeo, along will be obstacles we must overcome.” How we choose to react will dictate the consequences faced and sometimes the only thing holding us back is ourselves. The color pink representing millennials, and rodeo because growing up I always had a weird fascination with the rodeo but never was able to go. I started to see life for myself and once this idea came from God I knew it was the direction I wanted my legacy to continue. I knew this is where God wanted me and everything that happened in my life was to prepare me for this moment. I asked myself what is the harm in trying? I know I would never forgive myself if years go by and I didn’t take enough risks. Life is so much better when we take risks. I don’t fear failure, my greatest fear is living life with regret. I can live with failure if I know I gave it my all.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets my brand apart from others is majority of people can resonate with what my brand represents. From all ages. Everyone has faced obstacles that they had to maneuver out of. A lot of people know what it’s like to take risks, the severity of those risks differ but they all matter. Honestly, what I am most proud of is how much people love the brand and company progression. I’m sure it’s a matter of time before my brand becomes global once I figure out the best way to market and grow. So far, selling clothes inside of Southwest Center Mall in Rmir Market (Dallas Tx) , traveling and networking with celebrities has helped with brand awareness.

Most recently, Compton artist ‘WESTSIDE BOOGIE” purchased a hoodie at his concert at Paper Tiger & supported what my brand represented and that was confirmation I was headed in the right direction. I got where I am today by believing in my vision first before sharing it with the world and being genuine. I’ve sacrificed many years, weekends, friendships, relationships to make this reality. Life as an entrepreneur is not easy. If it was easy everyone would have a business. I know it’s worth it so making those daily sacrifices and putting time in will pay off. It’s been a lot of rough moments, a lot of doubt from others even the people closet to me and I just been blocking everyone out and focusing. At this moment, I am learning everyday and doing everything myself. Currently, I don’t have a team helping me make decisions everything is all on me, marketing, sales and making sure my vision is also felt in the music as well. The lessons I’ve learned is sometimes people will tell you your ideas are outrageous and try to go behind you and reinvent and make it their own. So, it’s best to work in silence, keep to yourself and trust in your vision. Mindset is the most important thing in business. When you are able to control your outcome by what you believe you began to manifest whatever you want. It all starts with looking at the glass as half full vs half empty take what you can everyday to learn. Success don’t happen overnight and don’t let the world rush you but years from now I will look back at this interview and smile. Business has been promising and everyday I am learning new ways to be successful.

“I want people to know that my brand is for the overachiever. The person who hates getting told no. For the person who was told no but refuses to accept it. Everyone has a story, it’s honestly up to you to define your story. If you don’t the world will define it for you.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The most exciting parts of the city is the music, art culture & fashion industry. Houston have so much to offer from amazing talent from the underground scene to exceptional food spots from Turkey Leg Hut, Grace’s, Lotus Seafood, Lucille’s and so many more hidden gems. There are a lot of cool jazz bars, wine bars and very inexpensive activities from The Menil Collection, Cidercade, & Axe throwing. We have indoor rock climbing, indoor skydiving and pretty cool drive in movie theaters and rooftop theaters. If you are a person who enjoys the country we have horseback riding, mudding, ATV rentals & even Jet skiing.

For me the most exciting people are the film makers, musicians and creatives. I feel this group bring excitement to the city but you also have the business savvy people here who makes many visitors decide to stay here long term because of opportunity.

Marivano Lister, is by far the coolest person I know though.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for certain members in my family. My pops, probably my biggest role model made the most sacrifices for me by putting me in position to win in life. All the life lessons, occasional tough love, years of motivation got me right here. Even the moments I felt we weren’t seeing eye to eye gave me wisdom and made my drive like no other. Naturally, most kids want to make their parents proud and my dad did a great job in giving me praise at the right moments because when I didn’t receive it made me work 1000 times harder. I didn’t like when people told me I couldn’t do something. I made it an effort to prove myself I can do it and everything I’ve manifested I’ve accomplished.

My granny was another person I cherish. She’s always given me love, encouragement and worked on my heart. From introducing me to God,to teaching me the importance of making the right decision. I learned at a very young age that we are only a kid for a short amount of time and majority of our life is spent as adults. Furthermore, my Uncle Brandon gifting me “Rich Dad Poor Dad” & “Think & Grow Rich” and instilling the importance of mindset made me optimistic. Growing up, some of my other role models were Kanye West, Kobe Bryant & Lebron James. Kanye, was a person I told myself I wanted to be like. A person who challenges the perception of the world, the person who is not afraid to be themselves and use their voice to tell their story. Kobe was a fearless person who mindset, work ethic and always being a student of his craft made him an all time great. Lebron, had so many obstacles set for him to fail in life and even with so many expectations he exceeded. He is an incredible athlete, individual, leader, father and husband. So many times people told him he couldn’t do something and he went and proved them wrong. I think people often forget people like Kanye & Lebron came from nothing. People will say Kobe had an easier route since his dad played pro basketball but look at all he faced growing up. Imagine having to learn several different languages and setting personal goals and actually meeting those goals. He left it all on the court and I respected him so much for that. I studied all these individuals and took pieces from everyone which shaped who I am today and what limits I would do to reach a goal.
