Meet Mary Avery | Makeup Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Avery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process on starting my own business was hectic at first. I wasn’t always where I wanted to be when I first started out. My thoughts were racing , I was all over the place. I just remember I kept thinking “Can I really do this?” “Will I be good enough?” “Where will my clientele come from?” “Will people like my work?” I thought everything imaginable of what could potentially go wrong first instead of thinking of what could go right. Then one day I just decided to go for it, I thought if I could think of the bad outcomes then that means it’s just as many good outcomes right.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I specialize in the application of cosmetics to enhance the appearance of individuals, whether it be for personal or professional purposes. I’m known for my Signature Soft Glams, man when I tell you my counts just love that specific glam. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come, from working alongside Celebrity hairstylist Jonathan Wright to starting my own business and making it what it is today is a major accomplishment for me. If you would’ve told 7 year old me that I’d be a successful makeup artist I probably wouldn’t have believed it. The things that sets me apart from others is my walk with God honestly. I feel like everyone is put on earth for a different purpose & everyone has a different path that they have to take in life. My journey is not someone else’s journey, my experiences is not someone else’s experience you know. Yes my testimony can help the next but each of us has a different walk we have to walk in life and no one has the same path. My walk with God the path I’m on & where I’ll end up is the most glorious & exciting paths I’ve been on and it’s mine alone to keep at it. That’s what sets me apart from others because this path shows who I am and who I will be. It just gets better from here, especially with God on my side.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend was visiting the area I’ll most definitely take them downtown to Discovery Green or to the Museum District. I love going for walks downtown to Discovery Green because it’s so many adventures live music, & good food vendors all around. It’s also many different walks of life out there, different cultures, different people. Then it’s outside, I’m a nature outdoors type of girl so that’s an extra plus for me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate all my success to the most high, God himself. Without him putting this vision in me I don’t know where I’ll be right now. I also want to give thanks to one of my sisters Olivia I remember when I first started out doing makeup she bought me my first makeup palette. I remember that to this day and for that I am forever grateful.
