We had the good fortune of connecting with Canade and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Canade, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite quotes is one that my mother gave to me as a young child. “I believe I can do anything, if only I believe.” It has been a staple in my life and a foundation in continuing on this journey of following my dreams even when I am scared. I hold it dear to my heart. Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a artist, a black man who sings and happens to be gay. I am mostly excited about sharing my experience and of course the music that is created from it. I got to where I am today by not giving up and not taking “no” as a answer. By continuing to learn about my craft, pushing myself and challenge myself to get to the next level. Fortunately, it was not and is not a easy journey but that is what makes it worth it. Every time I grab a mic or get into the studio I have a serge of energy that is unmatched by anything else. The best way I know how to overcome the challenges is by talking to friends and exercising the frustrations out. Along the way of course it is not always that easy. However, I have learned to not take everyone’s opinion personally, have grace for myself, trust my instincts and try anything you can think of even if it sounds bad, it may sound good. Lol I want the world to know that I’m sensitive about my shit, my music, my family and I’m very authentic and blunt about it. Meaning, my music and brand are just the same. I believe that being authentic is the best way to be and I think that is why great music sustains for so long and I want the world to feel and hear that from me.Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lol, Barcelona wine bar, bar taco and the beltline. All are spaces or environments that make you feel like you’re not in the city that you are some where different. The drinks are great and the food is amazing. That is one thing I will not stair you wrong on, food and drinks. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All the little black boys who are or were scared to shine bright like diamonds. Scared to share their feelings or their softness and being shamed for it. This so for you.
