We had the good fortune of connecting with Mayra Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mayra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
At first, there was much uncertainty with all the business aspects, but what I did know was that I wanted to provide a service for customers that was unique and of course very tasty. I also thought it would be amazing to be part of special moments for them, Weddings, Holidays, Birthdays, etc. Started by making sample boxes and gifting them and received great feedback. A week later I bought 200 boxes and gave myself the goal to sell them all in 6 months, from that moment there was no turning back it was going to take hard work but I knew I was ready. Very happy I started this journey and thankful to be a part of so many life events of my customers, it is great to see the joy when they receive their order.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to add variety to my arrangements so that everyone can enjoy and this takes much research and trials to find the correct balance. I have found a good medium between adding it all and adding just enough. I got to where I am at today thanks to my parents, they are an amazing example of hard-working people that strived for a better life in this country. They showed us that with hard work and consistency, anything is possible. It has been difficult to balance my corporate job with my parents, my small business, and my family life, but I wouldn’t change it. It is a controlled chaos that I found works for me. All I really need is to plan out my days in advance and get ready to work hard.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting for a week I would for sure take her to a cycle class in the heights. I would have her try a smoothie from Green Earth Juicery & Cafe and take a walk through the Vintage stores in the hights.

Tuesdays are Taco Tuesdays so we would hit up Tacos Panchis Taco Truck that has the best Fajita tacos with homemade tortillas.

On Wednesday I would take her to Creek Fitness to try what the Wednesday work out and then we’d go to Drift in the Heights for Wine Wednesday where she would enjoy flavorful wine that would be accompanied by one of my charcuterie Boxes.

Thursday I would take her to Steak Night at Around the Corner and we’d enjoy some nice refreshing drinks.

Friday we would go to the Color Factory, take tons of pictures and just have an amazing time.

Saturday I would take her to Discovery green for a nice walk and we would find our way to Rustic for some brunch.

Sunday I would take her to the local Flea Market Buey y Vaca in North Houston for her to find nicknacks and delicious snacks from all over.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout-out is dedicated to Indira & Perla from Posh Pop Balloons. They have been customers, fans, & supporters from day one. They have taken the time to guide me on the marketing side of the business and I honestly would not be where I am today without their help. It has been amazing to see them grow and for them to help my business grow. Women supporting other women is just beautiful, we have to stick together.
