We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melanie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As a young child my Mom and I used to do yoga poses for fun! At the time we had no idea it was “yoga”. When I turned thirteen I received two yoga DVDs and my yoga journey began! I remember checking out all the books on yoga at the local library. I wanted to learn everything about yoga. When I turned eighteen after the passing of my maternal grandmother I decided to become a yoga teacher. My maternal grandmother used to do yoga and tai chi. She loved practicing both! I became certified to teach yoga in her honor.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Yoga With Mel had it’s challenges at the beginning! I’ve been teaching yoga for the past four years in Sealy, Texas. At the beginning a lot of my classes were empty. It took a lot of time and patience for people to even know that in this small town we have a yoga teacher! Over time my biggest form of advertisement has been word of mouth. My biggest accomplishment has been when anyone tells me how much they love my class or when they accomplished that yoga pose that they have been practicing. My passion is teaching yoga and I’m happy that I am able to do what I love.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop is for the best coffee in town at Studio Blend Gallery & Coffee Shop! A nice quaint coffee shop with a beautiful art gallery and great customer service! For lunch I would definitely take them to Sealy Farms where they specialize in authentic Greek food! Opa! During the summer we definitely will lounge in our local community pool at Cryan Memorial Park Pool. A must to do here in Sealy is enjoy a sweet and refreshing snow cone at Tropical Ice.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All that I am is thanks to my Mom!! She is my number one supporter and biggest cheerleader! I’m so thankful for having her in my life. She is always present in my yoga classes and never says no to take another photo for my social media!
