We had the good fortune of connecting with Cecilia Charlton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cecilia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business after being frustrated with myself. I felt over worked and underpaid, and at times not valued. I’ve always dreamed about becoming a lawyer. A successful lawyer. I wanted to be a lawyer to help people. I wanted to be a lawyer to affect change in my community. Although, I’ve spent the last few years helping people, I did not feel as if I was helping to affect change. I prayed about it. I’ve watched others build their successful firms and I just decided to go for it. I decided to start my own firm.
What should our readers know about your business?
The Law Office of Charlton & Associates, PLLC is a boutique family law firm that services Harris County and counties contiguous to Harris County. We provide legal representation for the following legal matters: divorce, custody disputes, child support disputes and paternity disputes. What sets us apart from others? We provide potential clients and current clients with an honest case evaluation. Because we are a small firm, we are able to provide an intimate level of care. What are you most excited about? I am most excited about growing the firm. How did you get to where you are today business -wise. Was it easy? The act of resigning from my firm was not easy. It took me months to resign because I was so unsure about the “what if’s.” I overcame the fear of resigning through prayer. I want the world to know that I am a first generation college graduate. I am the first person to graduate from law school in my family and now, I am the first person to launch my firm. If I can do it, you can too. I work hard. I am compassionate and I am serious about providing great legal representation to the clients that I serve. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely start off the visit with a little shopping at The Houston Galleria or The Woodlands Mall. Over the week, we would grab something to eat at a number of my favorite restaurants and a few popular dining restaurants to include but not limited to : Pappadeauxs, Lucilles, Mastro’s, Eddie V’s, Triple J’s Smokehouse, Truluck’s, Cupcake Kitchen, and Taste Bar Kitchen. We would probably get massages (maybe at Milk + Honey). I haven’t tried it myself, but I’m sure it would be fun to try with my best friend. Pre-Covid, we could check out the Color Factory, bowling, Improv and painting with a twist.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow! There are so many amazing people who deserve a shoutout. My grandmother always provides a supportive word of encouragement and love. My parents always support and motivate me. They constantly remind me to never give up on my dreams. My husband is supportive and provides me with words of wisdom right when I need them the most. My sisters are the best. They know exactly what I need before I even open my mouth. They are encouraging and I appreciate that so much. My good friends, that have become family. They usually provide the listening ear when I need it the most.
