We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Gabler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Something that makes me very happy is feeling like I’ve accomplished something. It’s just a drive in me to accomplish things and not deal with the subconscious weight of the unfinished list. With photography there is fulfillment in every aspect, but knowing that a project has been completed brings much joy because I am totally free to move on to the next project which makes me even happier!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Photographer and photography has been a passion for a long time, but it took a while to make it a career. Life just went in a different direction until all of a sudden there was opportunity to take what I love and make it more than a hobby. In the matter of a couple of months several friends suggested that if I wanted to do this seriously they would use me. Well, those were offers I couldn’t refuse! The thought of getting to do something I loved that would also cause me to become better at it was irresistible. Saying yes is the easiest part. Now, it’s certainly not the most difficult career to pursue, but the challenges and constant lessons learned never cease. If it’s who you are then it’s worth it. It helps to remember that it’s not a destination, it is a journey. I do most of the typical sessions like portraits, smash cakes, children, and weddings, but I also do photography as art. I am currently working on photo series that I am framing to sell. I absolutely love this side of photography. I am having a blast shooting these series. I am also teamed up with a ranch in Navasota, Tx. for livestock, concerts, weddings and events. Side note: When it comes to weddings I am exclusive to EM Events (who was my shout out), and 7D Ranch in Navasota.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
7D Ranch in Navasota (7dranchtexas.com) would be a must visit! It is such a breath of fresh air away from the hustle and bustle. They also have the cutest cabins for a weekend retreat. I would also have to make lunch plans at Cafe Poetes in Houston (cafepoetes.com). Such a lovely and enchanted lunch or tea spot. Then there is Flourish in Conroe (flour-ish.com) yet another quaint and delicious best friend dining experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to send a Shoutout to Elizabeth Mize of EM Events. This dear woman was one of the driving forces in my career launch. She has been a dear friend and opportunity provider. Elizabeth is also a phenomenal wedding and event coordinator. Her touch is fabulous, but her heart is unmatched. She’s a gem of a person and I am grateful to know her.
