We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Howard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Bloom for All Physical Therapy has a passion to bring hope and empowerment to children and their parents. With our implementation of hope, listening and finding the root cause of what is holding your child back, allows us to meet your goals.
We believe that together we can tackle your child’s next goal. We see most kids on average 8.5 visits prior to them meeting their physical therapy goals.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Nice to meet you, I am Melissa Howard. I received my Doctor of Physical Therapy from Texas Tech University Health Science Center in 2011 and have been working in pediatrics since. I am board certified as a Neurologic Specialist and in Neurodevelopmental Treatment.
I enjoy connecting with children and parents and encouraging them in their journey. My passion for pediatric physical therapy also comes from personal experiences – I was born with a rare GI malformation and had several surgeries both as a baby and again as a teen. I deeply understand what it’s like to struggle to do the things you love and what it’s like to need hope.
My unique treatment approach is based on the realization that every patient is different and therefore requires the use of many different therapeutic tools. You will find that I use a hands-on approach with a high intensity to challenge patients and meet their goals.
I have had the privilege of teaching at Texas Woman’s University Physical Therapy school, Gaza, Palestine, the Cerebral Palsy Annual Academy, and APTA sections at Pediatrics Conference.
I never dreamed of opening my own practice, but I am so proud of what I’ve created and offer parents and their families. It’s been such a fun surprise, learning experience on how to build and run and business and gift.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I love food, coffee and a good walk at a park. For Food I love Street to Kitchen Thai, Local Foods, Uchi and Tiny Champions. Favorite Coffee Shop is Blacksmith! I absolutely love enjoying the parks our city has to offer specifically Eastern Glades and the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to dedicate this to all the parents who are out their advocating for their little ones. It takes time, effort and perseverance to help your little ones thrive and you are the real hero! Searching for answers and the right provider is hard, but you do it anyway! It’s such a joy when parents tell us they feel equipped to help their child, less anxious, so grateful to see their child meet their goals. Thanks for letting us be a part of your journey!
