We had the good fortune of connecting with Micah Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Micah, how do you think about risk?
The best things in life are on the other side of fear. Im not sure who coined that phrase originally but it’s one of my favorite to live by. Risks are just a part of life that’s necessary if you want to elevate. I feel like losers aren’t the people who come in last place, everybody who steps out on faith and even tries is a winner to me.
I’ve been taking risks my whole life. I went to college thousands of miles away from home, and I’ve now moved to Houston alone to build my network and expand. I have not regret one decision yet! My music and presence is reaching so many areas due to my ability to take risks and chances. I think it’s important to step out of your comfort zone sometimes, that’s where the real magic happens.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a rapper/songwriter. My artist name is Miic Lee, yes two i’s. Music to me is the most creative way to express your feelings, I haven’t been making music long I started in 2019, but I’ve been writing and expressing myself ever since I was a young child.
I pride my sound on being a little bit more sophisticated but simultaneously super spicy. A slick tongue that might make you have to look up a few words in the dictionary. My favorite type of beat is one you would want to blast in the car on the way to your girls night out event. Im excited that Jadakiss just recently heard my latest single “Finished” and was bobbing his head in approval, that’s big for me! My music is a confidence booster, a wake up call if you will. I have much range though, I resonate with the type of music I release for myself the most but I can write many types of songs like love songs, R&B and soul, I’m excited to show the world the power of my pen.
Back in 2019 I went through a experience that was a bit traumatic for me and I had to find a way to find a way to express myself and get back to the “Micah Lee” I knew myself to be. That feeling birthed my first single “I Run Sh*t Now” I was so excited to release it that I released it under the artist name “Mic Lee” but that was already someone’s name! yikes. So moving forward I had to release everything under Miic Lee with two i’s. It’s easy to be me, and that’s what I am doing when I create my songs. I have many songs out now on all platforms like “Mo Money, No Problems”, “Chanel Bad Habit” & “Risque” to name a few. I’ve learned to have FUN with it, don’t be so hard on yourself but know your potential and don’t play with it.
I love to create. I also make wigs and do all of my own hair. I’m the type of person who’d rather learn to do it all on my own because I mean hey, if someone else can do it, I can too. That’s something my father has always made sure I kept in the forefront of my mind. As it pertains to music and growing my brand and network, if many of the greats who’ve come before can do it, so can I. I am here to inspire anybody who has dreams or talents they’re scared to show to step out on faith and see where life take them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I just moved to Houston not too long ago, so I’m excited to visit all of the hot spots myself. When my sister friends come to visit me places we would visit are the Color Factory, the Galleria of course! The skating rink inside is amazing. There’s a new place I’ve been seeing with a bowling alley, drinks, arcade and a 4D movie theater called the Palace Social I want to check out.
Food is sooooo good here. Prospect park I like the food, Lotus seafood is good also! Im pescatarian so this is the perfect place for me with loads of seafood, yum!
Nightlife so far I love KAMP HTX! The set up is bomb and creative, I always have a good time there. Im excited to visit other places and get lit and have my music playing at all of the events.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I give God and my ancestors thanks for all I have and all I am, To my parents, my earth angels who support all of my endeavors in my journey in life. My family, friends and boyfriend support me to extreme lengths and I could not be more grateful for them.
