We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Borchers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always liked to call my own shots and to do things the way I like to. Starting my first business allowed me to work on my own time and to do the things I love. I was able to perfect my craft and to offer great service to my clients while remaining in complete control of the outcome. I also could not settle for working a minimum wage job and wanted to seek something bigger and better.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have started, failed and grown many different business in the past 5 years. My two main businesses are the moment focus on events and home services. It was very hard when I started especially because of friends and family not believing in what I did and thinking it was just a phase. But in the past 2 years I have been able to make more than $120,000 a year and I am focused on increasing those numbers as the years go by.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the restaurant Baso. I am good friends with the owner and they have recently been recognized by Michelin. I would definitely take him there after a good workout at lifetime or equinox. Some cool places to check out are the River Oaks District or going to an Astros game.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my success to my dad. Ever since I was a kid he has always pushed me to be the best I can at everything I do and to not settle for anything short of excellence. Even though it was hard growing up with a strict parents, he transformed me into the man I am today and I owe my success to him.
