We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Carvajal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, how do you think about risk?
My whole life I grew up around entrepreneurs. Because of that I am slightly more comfortable taking risks than the average person, Opening your own business is certainly a risk. In my opinion, the things that you really want in life will only come if you are willing to risk something. That is what sets most entrepreneurs apart from other people. When you take those types of risk, you put yourself in a position where the only acceptable outcome is success.

What should our readers know about your business?
After working for a real-estate company with questionable ethics I wanted the freedom to implement my own moral code within the industry. So, I opened a residential real-estate investment company called Miel Homes with the help of my business partner, a childhood friend of mine. Miel comes from the Spanish word for “honey”- a nod to my background and also a combination of the first two letters of both my and my wife’s names. Then in 2017, Hurricane Harvey hit Houston and I saw the immense need to make the homes in the community livable again. That’s when I opened Miel Construction- a residential remodeling company focusing on helping the community build themselves back up. Since then, Miel Construction has moved on to assist many Houstonians realize their dream homes. In my opinion, the things that you really want in life will only come if you are willing to risk something. That is what sets most entrepreneurs apart from other people. When you take those types of risk, you put yourself in a position where the only acceptable outcome is success. Recently, my wife left her job in the healthcare field to come work with my partner and me at Miel Construction. Taking risks like this has been one thing that has helped launch our company into success.

Unfortunately this industry is littered with unreliable contractors looking to make a quick dollar. We are aiming to change that standard one project at a time. We value integrity, knowledge and trustworthiness. We believe in empowering our clients with knowledge, giving them everything they need for a quality construction process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The museum district in Houston is a must see. The James Turrell Skyspace at Rice University is one of our favorites. The Menil Collection, Museum of Fine Arts, and Rothko Chapel are also at the top of our list. Definitely don’t miss out on the tex-mex and diverse food scene here in Houston.
