We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Esme and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My end goal is to leave a legacy for my family. I also want my end goal to be a hair and makeup artist for celebrities and work in movies with SFX.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Hair and Makeup Artist. I am the owner of Hues & Do’s Beauty and I create beautiful Hair and makeup looks. Sometime SFX makeup as well. What sets me apart from others is my work ethic, and being of service to others wholeheartedly. Not only do I provide luxury Hair and Makeup Artistry for my bridal clients and their bridal party but for my regular clients as well. When I am not styling bridal makeup and hair, you can find me painting and cutting hair as well as creating SFX looks. I also help clients who are wanting to donate their hair for a great cause! I am very proud of where I am at today. I am very grateful for all of my clients and for trusting me with all of their hair and makeup needs. I am really excited to see where my skills take me as my overall goal is to work in Hollywood film with Hair and SFX makeup for big productions. I would also love to work in theater. Knowledge is power! Education on hair and skin is so important and I am proud to say that I am Licensed to Create! Educate yourself, get licensed, and take some further education classes on whatever art you are trying to learn. This road hasn’t been easy at all. Especially during a pandemic! Being your own boss is hard work and perseverance. It means you wake up every day ready for the hustle and whatever comes your way. Good and bad. There are going to be a lot of fails but that is always the beauty in growth. Especially as an artist. Is it a road worth taking? If you’re a creative…Absolutely! I want the world to know me as a kind person and a creative artist.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I love Houston!! I grew up in The Heights Houston! I would take them to a lot of my favorite places such as Providence, Karbach, The Rice Box, local shops, discovery green, or any awesome event that is happening in Houston that week.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give credit to God, first and foremost. He gave me working hands so that I may help and be of service to others. I would also like to give credit to my family. They push me to reach for bigger and better things. I would like to shout out my peers (fellow hair and makeup artists in the industry). What I love about this industry is that it is always changing and there is always something new to keep up with! I thank them for always and forever sharing there knowledge with others. All of you are creative and amazing! I’m grateful that I get the chance to work with so many great people!
