We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always wanted to start my own brand around music and I always wanted to DJ. I was actually dj’ing for fun and making cds and playlists years before I became an actual dj back in 2019. It was the best decision I ever made.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Okay! Well again, with the help of my homies DJ Chosen and DJ Alo, they are responsible for teaching me how to dj. Back in 2018, I decided to take it serious by purchasing my very first dj board, and its been up ever since then. I became successful by having the solid relationships with my fellow djs and also with Alife Hospitality group, which is like the biggest hospitality group in the south! Ive dj’d at all of their establishments. Kamp, Prospect, FRNDS, etc. You name it! I have dj’d there. Ive faced the typical challenges. Trial and error. Learning as I go. But I wouldnt say it was easy nor hard. Ive had a very balanced dj career and have been blessed to be put in certain positions. I always dreamed of doing this and I had doubts of jumping into this because of my age. I was already in my 30s when i started. Most djs I know have been doing this since they were youngins and I felt I would be starting late. After speaking to other djs and knowing that some started around the same age, I became more relaxed with my decision. I listened to this podcast with DJ Shante it gave confidence to proceed to through with this new journey. I realize that I can do anything I want and it doesnt matter when i started. I just needed to start! So my advise to anyone reading this, if you want to do something and you have a passion for it, just do it! Leave all of the doubts behind. You got life for a reason. Live!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh thats easy! First off, Houston is clearly the place to be! It definitely turned into a tourist city. Everyobdy visits Houston. Out of towners love this city. Prospect, Kamp, FRNDS, Lost and Found are definitely the spots to go to. You can’t lose! Also, I would tell people to hit up Forget Me Not if you want to brunch and catch a vibe. Very nice place with a dope ambiance. Another place would be Nomad. Its a BYOB establishment and they have some great food and hookah. Definitely will have a great time and you won’t spend a lot of money. I would also tell people to go to Chapman and Kirby. Ive only ventured that place like twice, but I can’t lie, their day party vibes there are unmatched. Last but not least, Bar 5015. Very dope spot in the historical 3rd ward area, catering to the 35 and up older crowd. And they have dope mini concerts there. You can definitely catch a vibe at Bar 5015. So yeeaaah, that would be my official itinerary coming into Houston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes! First, I want to give a shoutout to my homies who are also Djs. Greilan aka DJ Chosen and also DJ Alo. These two guys are very important to me because they helped me start my dj career. They both gave me solid advice and a lot of guidance into this industry. Also, a special shoutout to another known DJ. DJ Tay Powers. Ive been knowing her for years. Met her through a mutual friend. Years later reconnected with her and she gave me my very first paid gig at her daiquiri shop. Last but not least, a very special shoutout to the guys of Alife Hospitality group. They helped me elevate my dj career by allowing me to dj at their establishments and I still work for them til this day. I am indebted to all of them.
