We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Marquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Hello everyone. My inspiration is centered around positive energy and my faith. I am inspired by life! Despite any adversities I may face, I always look towards a brighter tomorrow and the promise of a new beginning.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work includes social media managing, photography, and both creative direction and writing.

I am also very proud of my college education and will be graduating soon. During my college journey, I was uncertain of my artistic direction but remained positive that I would narrow down my future path. I am very clear now and I am truly excited for my future. God is good, and I have surrendered to Him and the path he has laid out for me; a transformational journey that will inspire me throughout my career.  My journey hasn’t been easy, but I’m grateful for the lessons and the experiences that I’ve had along the way. I’ve learned that life doesn’t get any easier, you just have to see things with a different perspective.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is definitely the spot for dining out and exploring and I would do just that! I think what sets Houston apart, and makes our city special, is the diversity of our communities. The areas that I find interesting would have to be the Galleria area, Downtown Houston, and of course Chinatown. Chinatown is at the top of my list due to the different types of delicious Asian cuisine. One of my favorite places is Flower Child and it’s hands down the best earth friendly restaurant I’ve tried so far. I recommend trying the mother earth bowl! Also, because this is Texas and we’re known for barbecue, I highly recommend trying The Pit Room in the Heights area for authentic Texas BBQ! The Houston Museum District would be the best way to end the trip, and I’d start it off by going to the Museum of Fine Arts. I went to the MFA recently and it was a wonderful experience; there’s something so magical about being surrounded by art. There’s also a lot of smaller boutiques around the area that have one-of-a-kind pieces. There’s so much to do, a week wouldn’t be enough!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the love of Christ and my family. The relationship I have with God has been fundamental in my life, and I give all the glory to Him. Also, the university I currently attend, and the amazing professors that I’ve had, have truly helped me gain the confidence I needed to keep going in my artistic endeavors. Being a creative can be difficult, and I’ve learned that by being authentically me and honoring my work and vision has been the best way to attract the right people into my life and the right opportunities!
