We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikayla Mae Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mikayla Mae, what’s your definition for success?
Success to me is being happy with what you’re doing in life. It’s finding something that you love to do and can be proud of. Success for me would be breaking routines in my life that make me too comfortable, and being able to express myself to the fullest extent. There will come a time when I am able to wake up ready to start the day because I am doing something I love, and when that day comes I will have obtained what I define as success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I consider myself as a creative because I don’t stick to one style or category when it comes to my art. I mostly paint and draw, and have began practicing graphic design. I love colors and drawing quirky looking characters. My characters can be bought as prints, and I’ve recently put them on buttons and stickers. Putting my art out there is something I’m proud of because it’s not always easy to share parts of yourself with just anyone, let alone the public. However, self expression is very important to me, so it’s something I’ve overcome. A lot of what I create is tied to my feelings. Not everyone is going to understand everything I create, but as a creative I have to keep creating and showcasing my creations in order to fulfill the need of purpose.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite place to go is the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. I’ve been going there since I was in elementary school ,and it truly never gets old. My best friend and I have actually taken countless day trips there. A place to grab a bite at in Houston? I’d probably choose the Burger Joint in Montrose, but for bar service i’d go to the one in the Heights because they have a full bar. I’d also recommend going to Cabo Baja Tacos & Burritos on Washington Avenue. They have some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. At some point we’d have to for sure make a Rockets game during the week. Even if someone isn’t a fan of the Rockets, the games are always live. There’s a lot of cool spots in Houston, I’d recommend looking into all the top restaurants.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends have always supported me with all my endeavors, and I’m grateful to have them in my corner. I’d say support comes in many forms. Whether someone buys, like, shares, or just tunes in to see how my artistry is evolving, they’re supporting me.
