We had the good fortune of connecting with Krishna Buford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krishna, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s your definition for success?
Success is a consummate and passionate pursuit of goals that expand and evolve as one grows. We should always be attaining, reaching, and creating new goals as life changes.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I’m certain of is this – Every single experience I’ve had has prepared me for NOW. My early professional years were spent in Chicago working in Public Relations. During those years, I helped maintain the corporate images of mainstream companies, such as Allstate, KFC, Keebler Company, Pillsbury Company, NASCAR, and Kraft Foods, to name a few. After juggling corporate clients and having a demanding travel schedule that I now look back on and am reminded of what 20ish energy looks like, I was hired by Abbott Laboratories, to work in Corporate Public Affairs. Who knew that one day, I’d be applying all of this expertise to my own franchise? After having children, I became a licensed real estate agent, dabbled in interior design, and ultimately found my way to the classroom as a Teacher. My mother taught for 34 years in Louisiana and after retiring, she was elected to the Concordia Parish School Board where she served, unopposed, for 20 years. It’s not surprising that some of her innate desire to foster the learning of children rubbed off on me. When I think of all the interactions and lives I’ve encountered throughout all of those experiences – both good and not so good, I am certain that God orchestrates the steps of all who follow Him. Otherwise, there is no way the perfect storm of my professional trajectory could have brought me to this perfect point where everything, and I do mean everything that I have done, is applicable to this moment. No matter what, I’ve learned to just keep moving forward and with everything that you attempt and do, execute with excellence as your beacon.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
(Insert giggle) Well, I’m of an age now that our ‘fun’ itinerary may be a little different from what is generally considered fun! Surprisingly, it would entail more relaxing than anything else. The first place we’d go is Flava Wings! We’d certainly get some spa time in at Bergamos or Trellis. Before Covid-19 and before Flava Wings’ development went into rapid mode, I spent quite a bit of time spa-ing around the city. No friend visit is complete without that. We’d likely enjoy dining experiences at such Houston staples as Breakfast Klub and Davis Street. An appreciation for catching views from the car around our beautiful city is highly valued during this Covid-19 period. Lastly, we’d spend an incredible amount of time in my sanctuary, Buford Oasis.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is easy – My husband, Christopher. Although God gifted us both with the vision to create Flava Wings and see through to fruition our version of a chicken joint, Chris was adamant about me having the professional outlet I’d always dreamed of having.
