We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Phillip and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misty, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted the freedom and flexibility to pursue my goals and vision on my own terms, the excitement of blazing a trail on my own, based on my vision, that others could enjoy, grow in and benefit from as a community.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love Jesus and telling people about Him! I do this through writing, speaking, podcasting, and the groups I lead. 🌟 Author of The Struggle is Real, but so is God Bible study and the Spark podcast planner 2020. My next book is on the idea stage and I am very excited about it!! 🌟 I’m the host of the By His Grace podcast. We address challenges we all face have conversations about how God is working and moving in our lives. 🌟 Currently, I lead the Houston chapter of Christian women in media. 🌟 Many of my live speaking events for this year have been canceled, but this has opened doors for virtual events and webinars. (I have some super cool collaborations that will be happening later this summer and fall!) 🌟 I’ve lead a local mastermind meetup called mastermind at Misty’s. I am blessed to be surrounded by so many talented diverse women that Love Jesus! 🌟 I launched the Spark Christian podcast conference in February of this year to gather Christians who are interested in podcasting together. 🌟 Long before COVID, I partnered with Eric Nevins to form the Rocket Podcast community an online coaching and training community. We have an incredible group of podcasters in our community, and I am excited to see what the Lord does the next time we open our community doors on August 1st!! 🌟 But my most important job is being Peter’s wife and mom to my boys! I just finished my 20th and final year of homeschooling. 🎉🙌🏼❤️ 🌟 I love my friends, coffee, tea, and books. My degree is in fashion merchandising and interior design and I definitely have my own style. 👗👠👜 I love to travel and go on adventures! 🌍🤸♂️✈️ but where I am happiest is on a trail in the middle of the mountains!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is an amazing city that has so much to offer a visitor. We are the most diverse city in the US and our people, culture, arts, and food are an amazing reflection of that. Since food is a necessity experiencing the best Houston has to offer would be a must to start off with. Houston is home to more than 16,000 restaurants and there is no end to the variety of foods you can enjoy here. Next would be sampling our amazing cultural diversity, Museums, parks, historical sites, shopping, and just plain interesting places to see visit could easily fill a week.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The events and people that we instrumental in my journey; She Speaks Conference, Hope Writers Community, Kelly Buckner: Be Bold Consulting and countless others have molded, shaped, and impacted my passion and my journey.
