We had the good fortune of connecting with Monalisa Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monalisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Master Peace Wellness & Consulting with the thought of wanting to work for myself, but have a healthy impact on the community while doing so. I wrote my “Dream List” down while in my Undergraduate Program and University of Houston, and listed all the things I wanted to accomplish while having the opportunity on Earth. Top of that list was to have a group mental health practice. I’m thankful that today, not only do I work for myself, but I also strive daily to benefit the community by helping those in need to address their mental health challenges and traumas.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started Master Peace Wellness & Consulting July 2018. I was going through a pivotal time in my career path, and I always knew I wanted a private practice of my own. When I felt it in my heart it was time, I initiated motion and here we are. It WAS NOT easy. I was working full time with an organization in Houston, TX, while also starting/growing my practice. I did not have a life outside of work for many years. When I would get off work, I would come home daily and stay awake until 2a, sometimes 4a, researching and learning the necessary information to set my practice up correctly.

I believe that anyone can be an entrepreneur, IF they have the willingness and drive to dedicate their lives to that mission. Along the way, I learned it’s greatly important to network with likeminded individuals who can elevate your mindset and behaviors. If we want to be in different rooms, then we have to be willing to get out of our comfort zone and do new things. Thankfully, I feel like my mother greatly prepared me to be a unique being and not give up. Best message is “Don’t give up on your dreams!”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I loveeee Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. It’s on of my favorite places to be and I visited there for one month after I quit my full time work to work for myself full time.

An ideal itinerary would include us becoming beach bums… Relaxing on the beach reading, having great conversations, doing some work, and enjoying the saltwater. Also, I’m going diving! Some years ago, I discovered water for me is healthy for my mental and Soul. Then, I started snorkeling and realized I wanted to see more. Since 2020, I started scuba diving and I always try to catch a dive when I’m near some clear waters to experience the beauty under the sea.

I also love good food… tacos, pasta, & pizza are a favorite!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my late mother, Mary Elain Bryant. Although she has not been Earthside with me since I was 16 years old, when I reminisce on the concepts and preparedness she instilled in me to be living the life I have now, I would not be who I am without her.

Also, Kimberly Boyd played a huge role in my growth as a therapist and entrepreneur. She was my LPC-Supervisor on my journey to become a therapist and I’m thankful we crossed paths while she allowed me to work under her guidance. The information I learned forever plays a role in my motivation to be greater.
