We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Landry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The key to being successful in anything you must first love what you are doing! Cooking is my first love having started cooking at the young age of six, which comes natural for me! My second love is Guest Services, where I worked in Retail Leadership roles for over 30 years! Now I have the best of both worlds.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I inherited the name “Mama Mo” from those I’ve cooked for throughout the years and it has became my trademark! My dishes have brought many emotional connections reminding many of home, and dishes they were raised on. Little did I know that years later the smiles, conversations, and laughter that my food brought would become something extraordinary!

I shared earlier that I am a firm believer in having passion in everything you do. And the key to being successful in anything you must first love what you are doing! There’s no question that cooking does that for me and it’s in my DNA!

At the very young age of six, her mother introduced me to as she called it, “The Wooden Spoon!” “My first few meals were absolutely horrible..but I didn’t quit! I was determined to learn how to cook and to be GOOD at it!”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
EADO, bar hop downtown, fine dine at Vic and Anthony and end the evening listening to Kyle Turner at 4212,

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Throughout the years I have received motivation from family, friends, and associates on a daily basis to pursue my culinary skills. My biggest fan and support system comes from my husband, Garfield Landry who inspires me to fulfill my dreams! And I can’t forget the two that stayed close enough to lick the bowls… my kids Vernon and Jada.
