We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
There is no singular correct way of doing things. When it comes to art, especially photography, I realized that a lot of my favorite images were captured at random or by accident. Coming into photography, I believed that there was always a set of rules that needed to be followed to get a “perfect shot” but after shooting, I realized that perfect was subjective. I liked going with the flow when it came to creating because it gives me the freedom to create without expectations.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When it comes to my artistic journey, I believe it is a process that is ongoing. I am grateful for every mishap, triumph, and several cases of the infamous creative block because it pushed me to continue to move in spite of and not stay stagnant. I believe my vision sets me apart from others, because I enjoy creating narratives or exploring vantage points that are often under looked.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m always down for some food! One of my favorite spots within the city is Union Hall, a food hall. There are tons of options when it comes to good eats, but my favorite menu items are the empanada meal (always two beef and one chicken) and a mango agua fresca from Hecho en Waco! It is one of my favorite food spots. After that, I’d recommend hitting the local farmers market and ending the day at the park enjoying the scenery.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest support system and often my first muses go to my family and friends. Without them, especially Jade, Jackson, Jasmin, Gabby, and my parents, I would not be the creative and woman I am today. Their constant willingness to work with my crazy concepts, ideas, and the faith and love that they show towards myself, and my work is forever appreciated.
