We had the good fortune of connecting with Naibi Rivera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Naibi, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I believe that teaching my children to take risks and not give up are the most important things for their future. When I was growing up, I was always the kid that loved to dream about my future and all its possibilities, But, when it came down to it, I was scared and lacked determination. I let the thought of failure win over my dreams and I gave up before the start line. Looking back on that, I regret not taking more risks to make some of those dreams a reality. This is why I think it’s crucial to teach my children that they CAN meet their goals and MAKE dreams a reality as long as they are determined and not afraid to fail.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, Stardust Event Co. is still very new. We are an event planning company and help clients plan and execute all kinds of events from weddings to quinceañeras to festivals and everything in between. We offer different packages to ensure that the client is only contracting services to meet their specific needs. One thing that sets us apart is that we are bilingual and knowledgeable of the Latino culture. I have often noticed that our community gets overlooked and stereotyped in the event industry and I want to ensure that we are here for them.
Starting this business was not easy, specially right after a pandemic. One of the challenges that I encountered was marketing and social media. It is intimidating in the beginning when you see a lot of event companies/planners online who are killing it! I’ve been doing lots of research and learning by trial and error. So far, I’ve noticed that the best way to stand out is to be authentic and post frequently. Our social media platforms are still a work in process but I’m focusing on creating content and scheduling posts in advance to help me stay on track. So, I plan to tackle any new challenges ahead with research, learning and with the help of my good support system.
My goal for Stardust Event Co. is to become a trusted business that provides quality services and ensures that their client’s vision for their event comes to life because their event is our event. I’m most excited about being able to meet that goal!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For sure Downtown Houston! I think we have such a good mix of things to do that you simply can’t go wrong! We would hit up the Texas Lazy River Pool at the Marriott and then drive to BB Butchers or Kata Robata for some good food. Then hit up Memorial Park bike trails and sweat it all out. At night for sure, go to Truck yard or 8 Wonder Brewery for some dranks!
At some point, I would also take my friend to Nasa Space Center, the Houston Museum District and an Astros game!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am today without my amazing Fiancé, Rudy. He encourages me everyday and reminds me to practice what I preach and chase my dreams. No matter how many times I’ve failed he is always there to dust me back up. Truly my biggest cheerleader! I would also like to recognize, my mentor and friend, Zarinah. She is one of the strongest woman I have ever met and taught me so much about the event industry but also about motherhood and life.
