We had the good fortune of connecting with Nana Kobe Adjapong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nana Kobe, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always loved photography but i never thought to make a business out of it. I always took pictures, i actually bought a good Nikon camera just to take professional photos as a hobby when i am free from my 9/5 job. It was only when i got laid off was when i decided to make a business out of it , but in the beginning i was doing it for free and posting till i started getting requests.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I am a Flow assurance engineer, i am part of a group that design and run tuned/simulated pipeline models that transport oil/gas from the Gulf of Mexico and down south Texas all the way to New York providing over 30% of the US population with energy. During my lay off i learned a new skill: software programming, So when my company called me back I built a little software report generator that runs 4 times every single day. I called it the NanaBot, this has given me a boost to tap into the software world. When I am out of the engineering office i tap into my side career : photography, real estate, software and any other cool stuff. Overall i learned to play the long game of what brings me joy, while working hard, being consistent and being extra patient, that has also been my way of overcoming my challenges, I just want to look in the mirror at 111yrs old and say “i did it my way. ”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston is its own mini diverse country, it has everything from music to food from different cultures. My main area i takke friends to is Herman park and the Museum district for art display. if there is a game at UH or PVA&M that is also a must watch. Also depending on the weekend we can catch a Reds/Liverpool game at Hugh O’Connors, One of my fav food spot is Thai Gourmet, I normally go for their Pad Thai plate. The day can end of at either Galveston beach or some photos taken in downtown by me ;].
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
