We had the good fortune of connecting with Nana Pesquera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nana, do you have a budget? How do you make lifestyle and spending decisions?
I believe the thought process behind, starting my own business had to do with a passion I have, and in this case it’s a passion for coffee. I’ve been in the industry for quite some time and to be honest I love it there’s something so wonderful about giving somebody their 1st cup of coffee. It’s a beautiful morning ritual between you, this other beautiful soul, and the seed that was provided from earth. That coffee bean benefited me in my livelihood and a benefit at my customer by bringing them pleasure.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is in service industry food, and beverage department. I’ve been in their service industry since I first started working. And one of my first job was a coffee shop in which I stayed in for eight years. I love the dynamic of working at a coffee shop. I loved waking up early and see my usual’s. I love practicing and perfecting my coffee or something so magical about it. After years of working in a coffee shop, I moved on to work at a Bar and I realize that I didn’t like the bar environment. It was toxic. It was dark and it wasn’t at all as inviting like a coffee shop was. From then on a dreamed of having a coffee shop but I never thought that I would be able to do something like that. I didn’t come from a background of money, or even some sort of education on how to handle my finances., but time and dedication, I did just that I handled my finances. I saved a ton of money from working at my service industry jobs. I picked up dog walking on the side, did as many side gigs as possible to save up money.. I started off at a food hall and I open my first coffee shop. I only had 20 grand and I was given a space I had to make a coffee shop. They are challenging. We made it work. Let’s just say that I thought the countertop with my own hands! Now that’s what I call dedication! The usual of mine saw what I created, and the success of the coffee shop, and offered me a partnership in a different concept which is what we know is Coffeetrend today. I’ve come to realize that the one doesn’t have the financials at times their knowledge and passion for something can get them a very far away.. after running my first business, I realize that though the front end of the business is different what are your coffee shop or retail shop or a pet shop? The back end of a business is all the same. So I started dabbling another business ventures.. what island along the way is that anything is possible if your hearts in it, and if you don’t give up things, don’t come easy things come when you put the word. Many of us expect the world to give us whatever we want and are upset when we don’t get it.. but if we just need a little hard work in a little dedication, and a little sacrifice can go very long way they would all thrive.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a good friend came into down to visit me in Houston, I would start off our day with a nice bike ride through Allen parkway trail and head off to la Fisheria, my favorite Mexican sea food restaurants located in downtown! After we would walk down to Secret Garden now known as SoHo garden for a drink or two. Later I would take my friend to the miller outdoor theater to catch a free live show! Then we would probably end the night at Agora for a night cap!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout out goes to the Houston community. The Houston in my community is my inspiration. In the streets of Montrose and the tenet up professionals to the music scene to the coffee, seen enter the support that comes with it. As Houstonians are all about supporting local. My friends and family and community have always believed in me until this day they have my back.
