We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Alonso and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nancy, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balance, is something I have to practice on the daily. Having children that are still not in school has even put a bigger challenge in the balance I need to have. Working for yourself could be challenging but also can help you in a situation like mine. I can make my own schedule and that’s what my goal was to have time for everyone in my family, socially and my own self.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I proud of the fact that I been able to build connections with people that acknowledge my work and time. I got here mostly by word of mouth and even if I had to struggle building it up because they felt this career was odd at first, they became more knowledgeable as I started to share how I can transform a place and make my client feel hundred times better, emotionally, physically, and metal. I work with people that hire me because of emotional stress and they let go off their home and income in and do a transformation. I overcame challenges by setting up a system that worked for me, and sat down and made a plan for each client before arriving. Booking and cancellations was one of my biggest obstacle but once you know your worth you are blunt about time and money. If you aren’t familiar what I do, I am a professional organizer, dedicated to helping people get rid of the clutter in their homes and setting them up with a system that works. We bring calm and a sense of order into your life. Our job is to help you feel good about every room in your home.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely show them our wonderful marquis to stay at, and enjoy the pool with drinks and I would take them to brunch at one of my new favorite spots called CHIVOS, food is so delicious and the vibe is amazing. Visit our galleria mall for some shopping. Milanos nails are amazing to get pampered. Houston is full of sports, a game is so much fun. Weather is the dynamo, astros or rockets! Dinner in MAD, Nobu, Marmo, or Casa Nomad are excellent, my favorites spots. Hanging out at post Houston we’re you can do yoga in the mornings and eat there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As I read this question, I’m thinking over and over and I keep landing on my family, my husband, my mother, my father. Unconditional support, from helping me take care of my children while I go to organize or decorate. But in reality I want to say myself. My dedication to keep pushing even when I felt there was no hope of this business actually becoming something. I’ve searched, I’ve networked, I’ve published, I’ve talked to people about it just to get myself in a position where I don’t even have to post about to book me because word of mouth did so much better to me. I’ve built relationships with clients to have me keep coming or get recommended. I had personal experiences where I’ve asked if I could get mentored to have a better view on business and either no response or a denial. So I want to thank me, I want to thank me for believing in me, and for never giving up. Uncle snoop said it best!
