We had the good fortune of connecting with Naomi Prevot and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Naomi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to start a tshirt line. I would save notes in my phone for different ideas. So when the pandemic hit last year I was like this is the perfect time to do it !
What should our readers know about your business?
The Omi Tee, LLC, was birthed in the beginning of the pandemic last year. I am a full time educator so when the pandemic started I was at home with my family trying to navigate distance learning for my children and also myself. I must say it was a learning curve for us all.
I always had the idea on starting a t-shirt company. I would save ideas in the notes section of my phone for about a year. When the opportunity presented itself last year, I stepped out on faith and started my business. It wasn’t an easy process for me because I didn’t know where to start. A friend of mine (Q) had a successful t-shirt business, so I connected with her and she helped point me in the right direction on what I needed to get started. I have faced some challenges since I’ve started this business, but one thing I have learned is to stay consistent!
The Omi Tees slogan is a tee with a purpose, we want those who rock the Omi Tee brand to make a bold statement when they wear our tees. Some of our tees (i.e. Bye Karen tee) may spark open and honest dialogue about some of the racial issues we face daily.
I would like the world to know that The Omi Tee brand is just getting started!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my girl was visiting for a week, we would definitely do karaoke, have brunch at The Breakfast Klub for the best chicken and waffles, or Grace’s. Hit up Roka Akor for a happy hour, or two. Dinner at Davis Street, Chef Holly’s food is AMAZING! Visit some local spots for live music.
I’m such a home body, lol, but when I do get out some of the most interest places to check out for me would be anything live music like House of Blues, any dope exhibits in Houston’s Museum District, any local concerts or whatever is happening at the time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout those who have been in full support of The Omi Tee since day one, my family and close friends. I really appreciate your love and continued support. Also, big shout out to Randall of Gatorz Gold & Grillz for recommending The Omi Tee on such a platform, and Q of Coins and Connections for helping me kick start The Omi Tee.
