We had the good fortune of connecting with Natasha Frazier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natasha, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work-life balance is a daily challenge for me. I’m constantly looking for ways to balance everything I do. Aside from working full-time, I’m raising three children and running my writing business. Generally, I write in the evenings when they kids are in bed, but as time goes on, I’ve learned to squeeze in writing/marketing time at every opportunity. For example, I often write during my lunch breaks, while at my daughter’s gymnastics lessons, or my son’s martial arts training.
There are pockets of time to get things done, and while I’d love the opportunity to set aside hours at a time, that is often not realistic for me. What I’ve learned is that every little bit counts. On days when I can spend more time writing and/or marketing, I do so. On days when life is much busier, I set the timer and give myself at least thirty minutes to get things done. In essence, what may work today, may not work tomorrow or next week in terms of balance, but the important thing for me is to keep working at it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been writing/publishing for a little more than 10 years. In two months, I’ll be releasing my 18th book, which is book 3 in my new romantic suspense series, The Langston Sisters. Most recently, my series, The McCall Family, won several awards, including the Henri Award, which celebrates excellence in Christian literature, and the Readers’ Choice Award, both presented by Joy & Company.
My writing successes can be attributed to my wonderful editor, Chandra Sparks Splond, and of course, readers. Without readers, it would be more difficult to do what I do. Meeting readers and celebrating these stories are the major highlights of my writing career. It’s a special feeling when another person can relate to my heart through my characters.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in my writing career is that this is a journey. I am forever growing and evolving in every area of my life, and so are readers. So, no matter what, we must all learn to be more gentle with ourselves and others as we live through this journey called life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Even after living in the Houston metro area for almost sixteen years, I still say, “I’m not from here,” and am always googling places to go. However, I enjoy food and when I hang out with my friends, we’re always on the hunt for a new spot.
But, I do have a few places I’d take them.
Of course, I’d take them to church with me at Parkway Fellowship in Richmond, TX. Afterward, we’d go to brunch at The Union Kitchen.
Other places to check out during the week: Joey’s in the Galleria, The Rustic, and The Honey Hole (So Delicious. Here, I’d suggest they try the shrimp and grits which also has a lobster tail.)
Between the eating, we’d also check out Brown Sugar Books & Cafe in Katy, as well as, The Book Readers Venue in Humble.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Readers! I am appreciative of every reader who has purchased, read, reviewed, and shared my books with other readers. Without their support, I would not be able to continue doing what I love to do.
