We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, how do you think about risk?
Risk is a key element in any form of business. If you aren’t taking risks, you aren’t learning as much as you can be. There will be wins and their will also be losses but once you can accept that everything you do produces either a positive, negative, or neutral effect then risks start to make sense when you learn from past experiences. Taking risks are what provides an above average life. They make me nervous, a little worried but at the same time extremely excited and motivated to reach the end result of the vision and see things through. I take risks everyday and don’t plan on stopping. Risks can be money, time, and also relationships. Ya have to think about all possible outcomes good or bad but manifest the positives to see your risk turn into spiritual, emotional, and financial rewards,
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Electric Shadows Productions is our company and we started as local community in the DFW metroplex around 2017 to connect people in the Electronic music scene to local shows and events along with a platform for other creatives and artists to promote their content. We have hosted events around Dallas, Tx and Austin, Tx featuring some of our favorite local artists and bringing people together.
Ultimately, that’s what it’s all about to us. Bringing people together. In early 2021, we decided to take a big leap and create our first music festival called Electric Retreat. We really didn’t know what we were doing in the beginning but that did not stop us. We located a venue over in Groesbeck, Tx called Rainbow Ranch Campground which is a beautiful outdoor location on lake limestone. A beautiful layout with cabins, camping areas with water and power, RV hook ups, a pool, enclosed structures, and so much more. It literally is the perfect spot for a small home grown festival.
For our first chapter of Electric Retreat we featured Chet Porter, Lovely Bones, Vanilla Guerillaz, Champagne Poppers, Raddix, and several other popular local artists that we have created solid relationships with over the years. Across 3 stages, filled with a vibrant atmosphere of unique vendors, workshops, flow artists, and the best vibes.
It’s not easy by any means to make these types of events happen. There are so many moving pieces and the logistics are a struggle but with the right organizational skills and patience. It is possible!
We learn something new every week here. Whether it’s talent buying, contracts, staff organization, venue scouting, promoting and how to continue building strong relationships with the right people. It’s a constant that takes time and energy is produced daily to see it all come together the correct way.
Electric Retreat is returning for its second chapter this August 2022. Two days of music, pool parties, art, and creative talents all bundled up into a weekend event taking place on August 6th and 7th of this year.
We have significantly bumped up our visual production at our main stage this year to feature these incredible artists from all over the country: Shallou, Crystal Skies, Cofresi, Feather, Crizzly, ill. Gates, Viskus, Ethan Toles, Raddix, and Champagne Poppers.
We want everyone to know that we are a community and organization that values and respects all people. We challenge ourself and hold ourselves to extremely high standards to ensure the level of quality we deliver is top notch for every event we organize. We strive to be different and do things differently than what we see so we can be unique in our own way and create events that are not only fun but also are memorable and leave an imprint to those that join us.
We have seen so much toxicity in the music industry over the years that it has forced us to realign our stance on the people and partners we work with so we can reach the goals we desire. Sometimes that’s the most difficult thing above everything else. Having the right team and the right partners that share the same visions and dreams is all that you need and recognizing the negatives in the circle and moving them out is the only way to level up and turn your dreams into realities. That is the biggest lesson we have learned through all of this.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live over in The Colony, Tx and I frequent an area around here called Grandscapes. It’s a huge location filled with restaurants, venues, little shops, a movie theatre, go carts, a ferris wheel and so much more. I tell everyone about Grandscapes and it’s where I go when I want to go explore day life and night life. My top spots over there are Lion and Crown, Nebraska Furniture Mart, and their stage where they have free events almost every week where you can set up on the turf with a blanket and some coffee.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The first person that comes to mind is Casey Kay. Casey is the sole reason why my creative passions for EDM culture have grown over the years. She brought me into the Electric Shadows team back in 2018 and since then we have created some amazing events and experiences. She is an amazing leader and business owner and has motivated me to be better every day. I was sort of a lone wolf before all this and she has taught me the values of teamwork and have helped mold me into a more organized creator. I can’t thank her enough for everything she does and has done and none of what we have accomplished would be possible without our loyalty to one another.
