We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Banks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I really didn’t have one when I started. I started publishing back in 2013 when being an indie author was still fairly new. I initially did this just to see if I could do it. We all have that one thing we want to try just to see. Writing and publishing a book was my one thing and once I did I was like, “Hey let’s do it again.” It wasn’t until maybe 2018 that I thought okay we can do this full time? Let’s see how I can make it happen. (I’m still working on it lol).

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always written, it’s something that I can’t remember a time not doing. At one point I thought I was going to be the next Tupac. (I will never let anyone read my old rhymes lol. They are something, though. lol) I was in the process of going through my college papers after I graduated, because my mom finally let me get rid of my textbooks and everything else. I had pulled up an old short story that I loved and used for my creative writing class and thought I should expand on it. Long story short I entered it into a facebook contest and ending up winning help publishing that story. It’s now book one in my Shattered Hearts Series. I look back on my journey and even on the hard days (pretty much all of 2020!) I know this is what I’m meant to do. My writing is raw and real. I write what I know and while it may not be my truth it is someone’s truth mixed in with a little something extra,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the city that never sleeps. The greatest city in the world. It’s funny this question comes up now, because we’re all on lockdown and I’m starting to forget what the city was once like. We would hit up the best pizza places, because there is nothing like NYC pizza and bagels. If it’s not from here it’s not good. (lol). We’d hit Fat Buddha bar on Ave A for some even better food, good music and an all around good vibe! (Try the chicken wings and get the bartender to make you a cherry bomb). We’d hit up a few broadway shows, and do all the tourist things: if it’s summer time get on the shark (it’s a speedboat that takes you around lower manhattan), hangout at the seaport, or even Coney Island for some rides that are older than time itself and Nathan’s hot dogs. Must go to city island for some banging seafood. If it’s winter time. Must hit up fifth ave and rock center for all the holiday activities and of course seeing a Christmas show! There’s so much to do in this city I don’t think a week is long enough.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to the “wives” and the batman. They’ve been the soundboard to my many crazy ideas.
