We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikita Sachdev and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikita, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I personally believe in never giving up. If you want something, you have to get it, but it’s never easy.
When we first started Luna PR, we gave it 18 hours a day, seven days a week. Although there were moments when I wanted to give up, looking back, I’m so glad I didn’t.
When I first started, I felt drowned out by the problems life threw at me, so I used them as fuel and really pushed myself, knowing I was working to change my future.
Today we have grown into a media house called Luna Media Corporation, a media company that helps educate the masses about cryptocurrency and blockchain. Under this umbrella, we have Luna PR, which has won several awards in the crypto space, Luna VC, a venture capital firm that invests in start-up projects, and also own the franchise of CoinTelegraph MENA. We’re also co-producing the first Web3 show on CNBC Arabia!
I can’t imagine what my life would have been like if I had given up early on, but I’m so grateful I’ll never find out.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Born in Hong Kong, my dad worked in shipping so travel was the norm. Childhood was spent in Cyprus and the United States. At university I initially studied degrees in environmental science and chemistry, planning to follow my sisters through medical school. After a change of heart, I enrolled in a business degree in Singapore – challenged to self-fund the degree on my own.
A chance encounter with a modeling scout in a Singapore shopping mall led to me joining the modeling industry the next day, additional work followed, and the semester’s tuition was quickly covered.
Working hard, juggling study, and modeling finally paid for my business degree. My modeling career took off, and growing success in the Indian market led to a small Fox Studios movie part. Bollywood beckoned, but working practices were challenging.
I decided I should take control, and with an established network of models and clients, launched a model agency, Luna Management. This rapidly grew into a fully-fledged talent agency.
One client was crypto exchange giant Huobi. In 2018 I was asked to present English language versions of videos that explained cryptocurrency issues. Reading an entirely new vocabulary from a teleprompter my curiosity was piqued. I remember grilling the CEO for explanations. On hearing that had I invested $100 in bitcoin in 2008 that I could have been a millionaire by now, I was fascinated.
I went home that day, did some research, opened a trading account, and began investing in crypto. As my interest flourished I wanted to share my newfound passion and began creating my own cryptocurrency explainer videos. As my following grew to the thousands, Huobi got in touch, asking me to join them to host a regular crypto show. Interviewing crypto founders led to invitations to explain crypto to audiences worldwide, including Oxford University and the University of Miami.
Explaining technical jargon was in demand from blockchain projects. After consulting for over thirty projects I realized I had found my niche, and in 2020 started Luna PR, which focused on PR and marketing for Web3 projects. Since then, our team has grown to over 100 people and have worked with over 600 blockchain-based projects. I’m also now the host of CNBC Arabia’s first ever crypto show, and my umbrella company, Luna Media Corporation which now owns the franchise to Cointelegraph MENA.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family, team, and mentors have been instrumental in my achievements through their endless support. Each of them have played an equally important role in the progress we’ve made as a company.
