We had the good fortune of connecting with Nizky Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nizky, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Habits thay helped me towards succeeding include taking the time to practice everyday. When practicing I focus and put my mind to it. Also practicing patience towards myself and my progress.
Perseverance is also a self habit I have in order to keep practicing and supporting my business.
Attention to detail is an important habit to develop as being a tattoo artist requires me to look for small details and make sure that my work is clean.
Lastly, having commitment, dedication, and understanding the responsibility behind taking care of my clients.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Like many artists, I loved to draw as a kid. My style is fineline and floral work. I went into fineline art style because I love to focus when I’m creating my artwork and the fineline style requires a lot of focus and attention to detail. When I get to do fineline work, I really enjoy getting to zone in and focus on my art.
When starting my business, I really wanted to take care of my clients so they would feel comfrotable and enjoy coming back to me.
The biggest challenge I believe I had to face was learning how to communicate with my clients because I didn’t know that much English when I first started. And I had to learn everyday, by myself. Another challenge was trying to find clients and grow my business.
Lessons I learned along the way was to have a lot of perserverance, focus 100% into my work and what I’m doing. And to always listen to my clients and take care of them the best I can.
I want the world to know that at my studio and beand we value oir clients and view them as not just clients but also friends.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Because I am from Vietnam, I would take my friends to try asian foods to show them the flavors of my country.
I would also take them to the Musuems in Downtown Houston.
And we could also go to the beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my best friend Huy Truong, who I view as my older brother, because when I first came to the U.S. I didn’t know a lot of English. He was living in Sigapore and we had a long distance friendship, but we talked everyday and he gave me the advice and support I needed help or when I felt like almost giving up. The name of my studio, Arty Vibes Tattoo, was also created by him.
