We had the good fortune of connecting with Nyla Handy` and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nyla, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my brand is faith – “faith without works is dead.” With faith you also have to have determination, grit, discipline both mentally and physically and that is the foundation of the success of NYLA Couture because not every door is for you and not every “yes” is for your business. Sometimes you have to have the mental discipline to say “no” to things that do not align with your purpose and your destiny.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A Multifaceted Artist…that’s Nyla Handy! I don’t just define myself as a fashion designer because I love to be a part of all things creative. I also exercise other artistic skills such as creative directing for music videos, stage plays, photoshoots; interpretive dance; motivational speaking and much more.

On top of being a national award-winning international fashion designer, I also find passion in fashioning the interior of women as a published author (STRUT: Unapologetically Living Life In Your Own Shoes). The NYLA Couture brand has grown to empower women of all ages. I authentically impact crowds through my love for creative arts, performing arts and language/liberal arts. My YouTube Channel has grown to 480+ subscribers from motivational engagement alone. As far as Fashion, NYLA Couture, has showcased in New York Fashion Week 2021, Miami Swim Week 2021 and LA Fashion Week 2022 Spring and Fall and Winter. You can shop any of these collections on my website: www.nyla-couture.com

My eclectic, yet classy collections have received love by multiple press/media websites such as Fashion United UK, Atelier Magazine- Moscow Russia; Fashion Magazine 24, Elle Italia, Marie Claire, The Impression and Madame Figaro Spanish and counting.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well first off, we’re going to all the local boutiques cause this girl loves to shop. Although I’m a fashion designer, I actually love shoes and shades more than I do clothes. After shopping for clothes, we are scouting the land to shop for new land holdings because ownership is key. Depending on if we want to get dressed up we are dining at the finest restaurants, but if we’re feeling something greasy and just want to chill- we don’t mind eating at a nice “hole in the wall” with good food and music, lol.

After all the planned things on the agenda- we just drive and see what catches our eye because the best itinerary is the one that doesn’t have an agenda, meaning the journey comes with adventure!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without the support and prayers of my immediate family and church family I would not be where I am in life today. The saying says “it takes a village to raise a child,” but as adults we also need a village. Those are your truth tellers, people that hold you accountable through the good and the bad…that’s the village that has held me up.
