We had the good fortune of connecting with Osiris Gutierrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Osiris, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Gshotz Photo Booth was an idea given to me by my best friend Mars after venting to her about how tired I was of working from home at an administrative job, while also taking care of my baby. I felt like I had no time to spend with him during the day and was feeling very burnt out. Initially, I wanted to create my own selfie studio and hopefully one day I still will. When I mentioned the idea of a selfie museum/studio to my best friend, she suggested I should buy a photo booth. Now if you know me, you know I absolutely cannot pass up a photo booth. I have a box FULL of photo booth strips from malls, arcades, parties, bars, you name it. I honestly just love capturing those fun silly moments while also having a keepsake of that time and place. I couldn’t think of a better business venture. I instantly began to form a business plan and talked to my husband about it, he thought it was a great idea and the rest is history!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It’s crazy because I feel like I have always wanted to own a business of my own and I think I get that from my parents. They both worked so hard for my sister and I to have an amazing life and have dreams of their own to start a business. When I told my husband hat I wanted to do, he was immensely supportive and we got started right away. I am blessed to be able to say that with my husbands support we were able to hit the ground running and have had an event almost every weekend since we started. I won’t say that starting a business doesn’t come with challenges, but I will say that with the right people on your team and the support of all your family and friends, it is much easier to be successful. I would really love to take this opportunity to thank our past clients because without them we wouldn’t be where we are today, booked and busy. They helped us learn and curate our photo booth business to better serve future clients and it’s all thanks to the opportunity they gave us. A challenge I am constantly facing is being more active on social media and promoting our business. Being very busy is not a problem I will be complaining about though!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places here in Houston would have to be Mico’s hot chicken. If I were here all week long I would visit memorial park, have brunch in midtown and check out downtown Houston for any of the weekly events they’re holding nearby!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely need to give the biggest shout outs to my husband for supporting me and helping me achieve my goals. My mother and father for always believing in me and helping me with our little boy. My sister, my best friend, my in laws and all of our amazing friends who support us always by booking, sharing our business, and giving us encouraging words. Gshotz Photo Booth could not succeed without all of them and our amazing clients as well!
