We had the good fortune of connecting with Parker Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Parker, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The initial thought was from my partner, Joseph. We are both music lovers and just thought how cool would it be to have our own record store. It’s always been a dream of his.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a specially curated record store in the East End. We carry a lot of emo, hardcore, punk, rnb and rap. We are most proud of also opening our record label, Rite Field Records. We have released 3 records so far and have 3 more planned at the beginning of next year.
Joseph and I started this as a pop up and having haul crates of records back and forth and I’m proud we have a brick and mortar. We just moved to a bigger location and I’m excited about hosting shows in the future.
Joseph and I both have our real jobs that we work full time so the shop, Gneiss Sounds, and the record label Rite Field Records are our labors of love. It’s something that we can curate together and tailor our collection and roster to the music we love and appreciate.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My first stop would be Xela Coffee for an OB Honey (our fav)
Next I would say lets grab some breakfast tacos from Monchie’s off of Telephone
Lunch we can head to Moontower or Novi Burger.
Afterwards, we’d grab a drink at Lil Danny’s and then go have a pizza at Tiny Champions.
Then go to Starseed for a show.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to shoutout Xela Coffee Roasters who first gave us the space to try out this idea as a pop up at their coffee shop. Now, we have our own record store and record label. Without them this would’ve been a far away dream.
