We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
There was a perfect storm which collectively proved to be the most important factor to the success in my business. Since the age of 4, i have been drawing. Since high school, I have been airbrushing. For over 30 years, I worked in the printing and graphics business. My business mural process encompasses high level artistry along with the printing process to create stencils for the murals I produce. Had I not been in the printing industry, the process I created would not have happened. The process i have is critical to the accuracy of the murals, and to the quality in which they are painted.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Simply Artistic is a provider of Custom Painted Murals, and Fine Art. I have put, the experience of all years of my life, with the exception of my first 4 years, into my business. I started drawing in pencil at the age of 4. Now in my mid 50s, pencil artwork is at the heart of my business. I also started painting small residential murals a few years after high school. I took that experience and streamlined processes to refine the mural service for my business. What i think sets me apart from the competition is the overall mural process. I incorporate computer graphics, printing services and my experience as a paste up artist (before computers) to create stencils as a backdrop to the murals that I paint. Building the business was not easy. It took many years of trial and error to get it right. I overcame the challenges simply by never giving up and determination to get it right even if it took 20+ years to do so. The lesson learned is simple. Read more and listen more to business experts. Many mistakes have been made by making my own decisions with little research. What I would like people to know about me and my business is that I am a one-man business that started a small business only to accommodate small local clients, only to surpass my own expectations ten-fold as I am now requested non stop for large commercial projects that can come from anywhere, nationwide.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a very simple guy. If I had a week long itinerary to entertain family or friends, I would keep it simple, for the most part. I would certainly spend a day at the beach. Maybe a 2 day with an overnight stay. Perhaps some shopping in the Woodlands would serve us right. There are too many holes-in-the-wall FANTASTIC Mexican Taquerias throughout the city whose food is to die for. Some of those would be on our schedule without a doubt. A sporting event or two would also be of consideration. A visit to downtown and an outdoors art show or festival might be waiting for us as well. We would end the week at Simply Artistic studios to showcase what this small business has been able to achieve.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Companies like Xerox and RIOT Creative Imaging (American Reprographics Company) provided me with a path for learning business management. At both companies, I worked as a Director of Operations and Operations Manager, managing all facets of a large business operation. Without having been in those roles with the direction of experienced senior staff, I would have had a much more difficult time running my own business. Specific support and direction was provided by my very own brother, Ronaldo. Also being an Entrepreneur for 30+ years, the direction and advice he has provided to my business has been far beyond what I could have imagined.
